Adams bounced between Minnesota and Detroit last season, posting a 7.02 ERA in 16 2/3 innings of work at the major league level. The 33-year-old right-hander will return as organizational relief depth for the Twins.

Adams was designated for assignment by Detroit on Sunday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 32-year-old has surrendered 13 runs in 16 2/3 major league innings this season between the Twins and Tigers.

The 32-year-old hurler got a legitimate shot in what has been a disastrous Tigers’ bullpen this season, but he posted a 5.14 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 9/10 K/BB ratio across his 14 innings of work. A corresponding move likely won’t be announced until after the All-Star break.

Adams had been designated for assignment by the Twins after getting knocked around in a couple appearances. He’ll hope his stint with the Tigers lasts longer.

Adams gave up five runs in two-thirds of an inning in a relief appearance Thursday and that cost him his roster spot. Zack Littell is taking his spot in the bullpen.

Adams will be available out of the Minnesota bullpen on Thursday night against the Mariners. He had posted a 4.50 ERA and 28/6 K/BB ratio through 18 innings of relief this season at the Triple-A level.

The Twins optioned Trevor Hildenberger to Triple-A Rochester after Wednesday’s win against the Angels, and Adams will be the replacement. The 32-year-old has a 4.50 ERA and impressive 28/6 K/BB ratio. Signed to a minor league deal, the Twins will need to add Adams to the 40-man roster, so there’s probably another roster move coming.

Adams was left unprotected last winter after missing all of 2012 following shoulder surgery, but he earned his way on the 40-man roster by posting a 2.62 ERA and 76/29 K/BB ratio over 55 innings this season in Double-A. While the 27-year-old was a starter prior to surgery, it looks like he has found a home in the bullpen.

Adams has a nice 2.35 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio in 7 2/3 innings this season for Cleveland. The right-hander figures to fill a middle relief role in his return.

Adams has a hideous 7.04 ERA in 15 1/3 innings of relief this season at the major league level. He’ll be replaced Wednesday by right-hander Shawn Armstrong.
