Lalli spent 11 days in the major leagues earlier this season, going 2-for-15 (.133) at the plate while serving as the Cubs’ backup catcher. The 29-year-old seems likely to pass through waivers and land back at Triple-A Iowa.

Lalli was designated for assignment by the Cubs last week and passed through waivers without drawing interest from other teams. The 29-year-old will continue to serve as organizational depth at catcher for the Cubs.

Lalli was designated for assignment by the Cubs early last week after posting an ugly .259/.293/.395 batting line in 324 plate appearances at Triple-A Iowa. He’ll function as organizational depth at catcher for Oakland.

He’ll back up Welington Castillo while Geovany Soto (knee) and Steve Clevenger (oblique) are on the disabled list. Lalli was batting just .178/.176/.329 with three homers at Iowa.

The Cubs have yet to make an official roster move, but this would mean Blake Lalli would be sent back to the minors. Clevenger is 6-for-13 (.462) with a homer and three RBI over five rehab games with Triple-A Iowa. He’ll share playing time with Koyie Hill upon his return.

He was sent down to make room for Steve Clevenger’s return from the disabled list. Lalli went 2-for-15 (.133) in his first taste of the big leagues.

The agreement includes an invitation to spring training, but Lalli is doubtful to crack the Brewers’ Opening Day roster. He batted just .256/.291/.396 in 340 plate appearances this past season at the Triple-A level.

Lalli batted just .125/.125/.125 over 24 at-bats with the big club. He’s being sent down in order to clear room for the arrival of Francisco Rodriguez.

Lalli, who is batting .387 with a home run and seven RBI this spring, would serve as the third catcher and would also be an option to see some starts at first base. “Maybe,” Roenicke said of Lalli’s chances. “He’s impressing a lot of people. Not just with what he’s doing but this guy is really sharp. He’s going to call a great game if we have him behind the plate. He’s a really smart guy. And he gives you a nice at-bat.”
