Blue Jays released RHP Blake McFarland; re-signed him to a minor league contract.
The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Danny Barnes. McFarland was added to the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster last year as protection from the Rule 5 Draft, but he hasn’t pitched at any level in 2016 because of an injury. He’ll continue to rehab under their watch.

Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Blake McFarland from Triple-A Buffalo.
McFarland is now on the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster and protected from next month’s Rule 5 Draft. The 27-year-old right-hander registered a 2.03 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, and 72/10 K/BB ratio in 57 2/3 innings this past season between Double-A and Triple-A. He could become an option for the Toronto bullpen in 2016.
