Outman had been on a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo, but he’ll get the boot from the club’s 40-man roster as they needed the space for Andrew Sears on Sunday. With the emergence of Brett Callahan, his spot on the MLB roster became expendable.

Callahan’s home run was the first of his major league career. He hit a solo shot off Braxton Ashcraft in the fifth inning. Callahan is 4-for-9 (.444) with a home run and five RBI in the first three games of his career. As long as his bat stays hot, he’ll continue to see regular playing time against right-handed pitching until Riley Greene (hamstring) returns.

Callahan joined a rare list of players who picked up their first hits as a three-bagger, and it gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead. The 24-year-old is not considered a top prospect, but he could get a chance to see some time with a rash of injuries to the usual Tigers’ outfielders. It’s hard to fathom much fantasy success here, but congrats to Callahan on the first knock.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 24-year-old outfielder. Callahan, a 13th round selection from the 2023 draft class, has slashed .269/.365/.443 with 13 homers, 56 RBI, 29 stolen bases and a 94/46 K/BB ratio over 416 plate appearances between Triple-A Toledo and Double-A Erie this season. He’ll help to provide depth in the Tigers’ outfield while they’re dealing with a plethora of injuries.
