Mariners signed RHP Brian Ellington to a minor-league contract.
The Mariners plucked him from the independent American Association, where he had been pitching for the Kansas City T-Bones. Ellington cut his teeth in the Marlins’ organization, compiling a 4.65 ERA over 97 appearances at the major-league level. He enjoyed a cup of coffee in the Red Sox’s system this year, but was let go in June after getting knocked around at Triple-A Pawtucket (9.00 ERA in four relief outings).

Red Sox released RHP Brian Ellington.
Ellington, 28, appeared in 16 games at the Double-A and Triple-A level with a 3.32 ERA, but he had a 9.00 mark upon his promotion to Pawtucket, and he walked 20 hitters in 19 innings compared to 25 strikeouts. We haven’t seen him in the majors since 2017, and it’s unlikely we see the right-hander back at the highest level soon.

Red Sox signed RHP Brian Ellington to a minor league contract.
Ellington, 28, missed most of the 2018 season while battling biceps issues. While he was miserable in 2017, he was a useful bullpen piece for the Marlins from 2015-2016 where he posted a 2.64 ERA 1.26 WHIP and 50/29 K/BB ratio across 58 innings. He makes for a nice low-risk depth signing for the Red Sox as they continue to hunt for bullpen depth.

The Marlins will option Brian Ellington to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday.
Ellington finds himself as the odd man out in Miami’s pen with A.J. Ramos returning from a broken finger. It’s surprising to see Ellington go given how well he’s pitched this season. The right-hander holds an impressive 0.92 ERA over 19 appearances in the big leagues this year. He won’t be in the minors for long.

Marlins optioned RHP Brian Ellington to Triple-A New Orleans.
Ellington has been back and forth between the majors and minors this season despite a 0.92 ERA with the big club. He’ll be back soon.

Marlins recalled RHP Brian Ellington from Triple-A New Orleans.
Ellington has posted a 3.80 ERA with 31 strikeouts over 23 2/3 frames for New Orleans this season. The hard-thrower will work in middle relief for now but could find himself later in games if he can avoid too many walks.

Marlins recalled RHP Brian Ellington from Triple-A New Orleans.
He’ll provide a fresh arm and additional depth in the Marlins bullpen. He has done a tremendous job when called upon this season, registering a 0.79 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 11/5 K/BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings.

Marlins optioned RHP Brian Ellington to Triple-A New Orleans.
He gets the boot despite allowing just one earned run while striking out a batter per inning over 11 1/3 frames. Ellington can hit 100 mph on the radar gun, but the Marlins would like him to work on his control.

Brian Ellington walked a couple of batters and gave up a run in 1 1/3 innings of relief Friday versus the Nationals.
Ellington had a 2.45 ERA in 33 innings for the Marlins last year and a 2.88 ERA in 25 innings in 2015, but he might begin another season in the minors after the Marlins loaded up their pen in the offseason. He hasn’t helped his case by giving up four runs in 7 1/3 innings this spring.
