After being selected in the third round of the 2026 draft, Brody Bumila said he intends to sign with the Rangers and undergo Tommy John surgery.

Bumila, a 6-foot-9 lefty drafted out of a Massachusetts high school, was looked at as a probable first-round pick before the injury was revealed earlier this month, and he will be getting first-round money to sign with the Rangers, according to the Boston Globe’s Matt Porter. He’s probably happy about the destination, too, as he was committed to the University of Texas.

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel reports Bishop Feehan H.S. (MA) LHP Brody Bumila shared an MRI with teams that revealed a UCL injury.

It’s a massive injury bombshell with less than one week remaining until the MLB Draft. The 6-foot-9 Massachusetts prep lefty was hitting triple-digits routinely this spring following last year’s internal brace procedure on his elbow. The 18-year-old is committed to Texas and could ultimately wind up heading to college if he slips far enough in the draft due to injury concerns. He was universally-regarded as a top-25 range selection prior to this latest development.
