Blue Jays signed INF Buddy Kennedy to a minor league contract.
Kennedy returns to Toronto for the second time this season after being removed from Los Angeles’ 40-man roster and electing free agency last week. The 26-year-old infielder has gone 2-for-29 with one RBI in 13 games for three different clubs this season. He’ll function as emergency infield depth for the Blue Jays down the home stretch.

Buddy Kennedy has elected free agency.
Rather than accepting the outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 26-year-old infielder will explore the open market instead. Kennedy has gone just 2-for-29 (.069) with one RBI and an 8/2 K/BB ratio over 32 plate appearances with the Phillies, Blue Jays and Dodgers this season.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #46
Dodgers sent INF Buddy Kennedy outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 26-year-old passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Monday and it sounds like he’ll accept the outright assignment to Triple-A. Kennedy went just 1-for-17 with one RBI in his limited action with the Dodgers.
  • LAD 2nd Baseman #46
Dodgers designated INF Buddy Kennedy for assignment.
Kennedy went 1-for-17 with one RBI in seven games with the Dodgers after being claimed off waivers from the Phillies back in mid-August. He loses his roster spot with utility specialist Enrique Hernández returning from the injured list.

Enrique Hernández went 2-for-3 with a double as Triple-A Oklahoma City’s DH in his first rehab game Wednesday.
Hernández, on the IL with left elbow inflammation, could rejoin the Dodgers next week. Buddy Kennedy will probably lose his spot once that happens.

Dodgers claimed INF Buddy Kennedy off waivers from the Blue Jays.
The 26-year-old infielder was designated for assignment earlier in the week by the Blue Jays after going 1-for-12 (.083) with three strikeouts in his limited action with the Jays. He’ll add extra infield depth for the Dodgers while Max Muncy (oblique) is shelved.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #24
Blue Jays optioned INF Buddy Kennedy to Triple-A Buffalo.
Kennedy was with the big league club for a week to provide some extra infield depth but his services are no longer needed with (ankle) returning from the injured list on Tuesday. The 26-year-old has gone 1-for-12 (.083) with three strikeouts in his limited big league action this season.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #19
Blue Jays selected the contract of INF Buddy Kennedy from Triple-A Buffalo.
Kennedy provides Toronto with some defensive versatility and on-base skills in a bench role heading into the home stretch. The 26-year-old infielder got into four games earlier this season with the Phillies. He’s put up some stellar numbers throughout his career at the Triple-A level, but he hasn’t been able to carve out a permanent role in the big leagues between several organizations.
  • FA 2nd Baseman #19
Buddy Kennedy elected free agency after being sent outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The Phillies designated Kennedy for assignment Monday, and he went unclaimed. The 26-year-old will now be free to choose a new organization, but he’ll likely be looking for a minor league contract.
  • PHI 2nd Baseman #19
Phillies designated INF Buddy Kennedy for assignment.
Kennedy was 0-for-7 in 11 days with the Phillies, bringing his career line down to .193/.287/.296 in 157 plate appearances.
