Cardinals selected the contract of RHP Cade Winquest from Triple-A Memphis

The 26-year-old was selected in the Rule 5 draft by the Yankees but returned to the Cardinals in April. This season, he has moved to the bullpen full time and has a 4.54 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 57/14 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings at Triple-A. He will make his MLB debut if/when he gets into a game.

Yankees designated RHP Cade Winquest for assignment.

The 25-year-old Rule 5 pick made the Yankees’ team out of spring training and hung around for a couple of weeks but never saw any game action. If he clears waivers, he’ll be returned to the Cardinals unless the Yankees attempt to work out a trade to retain his rights.

Yankees selected RHP Cade Winquest from the Cardinals with the ninth pick of the Rule 5 draft.

Winquest is one of the few starters who was drafted in this year’s Rule 5, but his path to joining the Yankees will likely come in relief. An eighth-round pick back in 2022, Winquest made 23 starts — 25 appearances in total — while reaching Double-A while in the St. Louis organization with a 110/39 K/BB and 3.99 ERA over 106 innings.
