    Pirates released INF Cam Devanney.
The move is now official. Devanney is headed overseas to pursue an opportunity with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. The 28-year-old infielder got into 14 games last season for the Pirates in his first taste of the majors, batting .139 (5-for-36) with one RBI during that span.
  • PIT Shortstop #34
Pirates infielder Cam Devanney is signing with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, reports Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Nothing official yet. Devanney appears poised to take his talents overseas to Japan after appearing in 14 games last season for the Pirates in his first taste of the majors, batting .139 (5-for-36) with one RBI during that brief cup of coffee. The 28-year-old infielder came over from the Royals in the Adam Frazier trade back in mid-July and posted some encouraging numbers at the Triple-A level, batting .266/.353/.493 with 20 home runs and five steals in 103 games. His departure will free up a spot on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s Rule 5 deadline.
  • PIT Center Fielder #10
Bryan Reynolds is not in the starting lineup for the Pirates on Wednesday against the Cubs.
After a good month of August, Reynolds has started slow in September, hitting just .200 in 14 games with one home run and 17 strikeouts. He’ll take a break with Nick Yorke moving from second base to right field, Nick Gonzales playing second base, and Cam Devanney in the lineup at third base.
  • PIT Shortstop #17
Pirates selected the contract of INF Cam Devanney from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Devanney came over in the Adam Frazier trade with the Royals last month and receives his first promotion to the big leagues prior to Saturday’s game against the Red Sox. The 28-year-old infielder has batted .266/.353/.493 with 20 homers and five steals in 103 games at the Triple-A level this season. He’s unlikely to make an impact for fantasy purposes in shallow mixers, but should be monitored closely in NL-only formats over the final month.
  • PIT Shortstop #17
Pirates INF prospect Cam Devanney went 1-for-4 with a walk and a home run for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old now has 20 home runs and a .905 OPS in 89 Triple-A games this season. Devanney has struggled a bit in August after a hot month of July, but he has played shortstop, third base, and second base this season and should be up to get a look in Pittsburgh later this summer.
  • PIT Shortstop #17
Pirates INF prospect Cam Devanney went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday.
Devanney hit .333/.433/.596 in July with four home runs and nine RBI. He has 19 home runs and 57 RBI on the season at Triple-A. He’s 28 years old, so at this point, the Pirates need to see if he can be a legitimate part of their lineup in 2026. The fact that he’s not already getting MLB at-bats makes little sense.
  • PIT Shortstop #17
Pirates INF prospect Cam Devanney went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and two runs scored for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Devanney, who was acquired from the Royals for Adam Frazier earlier this month, his hitting .275/.375/.547 in 78 games at Triple-A this season with 19 home runs, 56 RBI, and three steals. Since coming to the Pirates organization, Devanney has played three games at shortstop, four games at third base, and one game at second base. The Pirates figure to call him up after the break to replace either Ke’Bryan Hayes or Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the starting lineup, depending on what happens at the trade deadline.
  • PIT Shortstop #17
Pirates acquired SS Cam Devanney from the Royals for INF/OF Adam Frazier; optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.
This is a surprisingly solid return for two months of Adam Frazier. Devanney was putting up good numbers at Triple-A, hitting .272/.366/.565 with 18 home runs, 55 RBI, and three steals in 69 games. He also had a solid 70/34 K/BB ratio, which is more than acceptable for a hitter with a 48 percent hard-hit rate and 90.4 mph average exit velocity. The 28-year-old is primarily a shortstop, but has also played third base, second base, and left field this season. It remains to be seen if the Pirates will call him up immediately and where they will play him, but both starting shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa and starting third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes have had their names come up in trade rumors.
  • PIT 2nd Baseman #26
Fansided’s Robert Murray reports that the Royals have acquired INF/OF Adam Frazier from the Pirates.
And trade season is officially underway with Frazier being dealt for INF prospect Cam Devanney. Frazier had started only one game for the Pirates in July and was used as a pinch hitter in five more, so his role was already being reduced. The veteran was 19-for-70 (.271) from June 1 on with one home run, eight runs scored and seven RBI while playing mainly outfield for the Pirates. This could open up more opportunities in the outfield for Alexander Canario or perhaps give the Pirates room to call Nick Yorke up from Triple-A, unless Devanney is brought up right away. Frazier will likely be a left-handed bat off the bench for the Royals and could potentially be a bad sign for the health of Michael Massey, who was hit by a pitch in the hand during his rehab assignment last week.
  • KC Shortstop
Royals selected the contract of INF/OF Cam Devanney from Triple-A Omaha.
It’ll be the major league debut for the 28-year-old Devanney, who had busted out with a .272/.366/.565 line in Triple-A this season. Although the Royals are listing him as an infielder/outfielder, he has very little outfield experience, having mostly played shortstop, third and second in the minors. He’s played two games in the outfield during his 1 1/2 seasons with Omaha. The Royals figure to give him some time at second, with Jonathan India maybe doing more DHing and seeing starts in left.
