Rays optioned RHP Chase Solesky to Durham.

The Rays needed a roster spot to activate Steven Matz from the injured list, so Solesky was sent down. The right-hander’s last outing was not a good one, but he’s pitched well enough in middle relief for the Rays this season that he will likely get another chance over the summer.

With Steven Matz (elbow) landing on the injured list, the Rays have brought Solesky up from the minors. However, one has to wonder if this is just to provide length out of the bullpen because Solesky has a 6.57 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in six starts at Triple-A this season.
