Tristan Peters went 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, two runs scored, a solo home run and three RBI against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Peters’ home run was his 11th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Peyton Gray in the sixth inning. Peters has now hit a home run in four consecutive games. He’s hitting .277 with an .802 OPS and 50 RBI this year.

CWS Relief Pitcher #31

Grant Taylor picked up the save against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Taylor’s save was his eighth of the season. Things got hairy in the ninth inning when Hagen Smith walked the bases loaded, but Taylor came in to get the final out and pick up the save. He threw two pitches. Taylor has a 2.11 ERA this year.

CWS Starting Pitcher #18

Anthony Kay allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings and got a no-decision in the White Sox’ 11-7 victory over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Kay gave up six hits, walked two and struck out four. He entered play Tuesday with a 2.66 ERA in four August starts. Kay wasn’t quite as sharp against the Rangers as even with an 8-1 lead he couldn’t complete the fifth inning. He has a 4.09 ERA this year. Kay is lined up to face the Astros on the road next week.

White Sox recalled RHP Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte.

Cannon figures to operate in a swingman-type role out of Chicago’s bullpen. He hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since suffering a hip injury during his season debut back in mid-April. The 26-year-old has been operating as a starter at Triple-A Charlotte for the last few months. He can be ignored in all fantasy formats.

CWS Relief Pitcher #50

White Sox placed RHP Huáscar Brazoban on the 15-day injured list with a left lat strain.

Brazoban suffered the injury during a relief appearance against the Rangers on Monday. The 36-year-old hits the shelf after making 10 appearances for the White Sox after coming over from the Mets at the trade deadline. No word yet regarding how much time he’ll miss, but lat strains are typically measured in weeks and months, not days.

White Sox placed OF Andrew Benintendi on the bereavement/family medical emergency list.

Benintendi figures to miss the next two games against Texas. Rikuu Nishida is taking his place and could make a start or two.

White Sox recalled INF/OF Rikuu Nishida from Triple-A Charlotte.

Nishida is back for a second stint with the White Sox after going 7-for-29 in 12 games in May and June. This could be a brief stay while Andrew Benintendi is on leave.

José Urquidy surrendered five runs in three innings Monday in a loss to the Rangers.

Urquidy was coming off his best outing since Tommy John last Wednesday against the Cubs, but nothing much went right tonight. The first inning saw him throw 38 pitches, the highest total of his career, and give up two runs. In all, he threw 93 pitches to get nine outs, walking four and plunking two in the process. The White Sox have Thursday off, so they don’t need to start both Erick Fedde and Urquidy this weekend. Based on tonight, Fedde might be the better bet to face the Twins.
Colson Montgomery

Colson Montgomery struck out three times and popped out once in his four at-bats Monday against the Rangers.

Montgomery is 0-for-13 with nine strikeouts the last three days, and he’s hitting just .188/.254/.313 in 33 games since the break. His strikeout rate is currently sitting at a dreadful 34 percent, which is up from 29 percent in 71 games as a rookie last year. It’s not a good sign for the future.
Caleb Bonemer

CWS Shortstop

White Sox SS/3B prospect Caleb Bonemer will start games in center field later this week for Double-A Birmingham.

Bonemer has played shortstop and third base exclusively at the outset of his professional career, but the White Sox want to expose him to the outfield to add some defensive versatility to his toolbelt and give him additional avenues to at-bats at the highest level. The 20-year-old top prospect has put together an outstanding season, hitting .249/.381/.556 with 33 home runs and 16 steals between Double-A Birmingham and High-A Winston-Salem this season. It’s an interesting wrinkle to monitor as Bonemer heads to the Arizona Fall League in a couple weeks.
