Montgomery led off the fourth inning with a single, then later drove in two runs on a double in the fifth. He then drew a walk and scored a run in the seventh. The 24-year-old shortstop is hitting .216/.296/.438 with 29 homers, 63 runs scored, and 79 RBI across 550 plate appearances.

Burke was outstanding on Tuesday in Houston, holding the Astros scoreless into the sixth. He allowed just one hit and walked four batters while collecting six strikeouts, falling one out short of completing six frames at 104 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander will take an excellent 3.20 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 167/54 K/BB ratio across 154 2/3 innings into a start against the Twins in Chicago on Sunday.

McDougal struggled in his one appearance for the White Sox earlier this season. The 23-year-old has been in a bullpen role this year as he recovers from injury, posting a 4.12 ERA in 39 1/3 innings at Triple-A. He figures to move back into a starting role in the offseason.

White Sox selected the contract of OF Tommy Pham from Triple-A Charlotte.

Pham was acquired from the Phillies on Monday. He was 0-for-13 in his brief stint with the Mets earlier this season and hit .245/.330/.370 in 120 plate appearances for the Pirates last year. He figures to be a pinch hitter against lefties off the bench.

Montgomery’s home run was his 29th of the season. He smashed a solo shot off Bennett Sousa in the seventh inning. Montgomery was 20-for-100 (.200) with four home runs and 14 RBI in 26 games in August. He’s hitting .214 with a .729 OPS and 77 RBI this year.

It sounds like Leasure underwent a full Tommy John ligament replacement procedure since he isn’t expected back until spring training in 2028, according to a team statement. The 28-year-old struggled to an inflated 6.27 ERA across 18 2/3 innings for the White Sox this season.

White Sox acquired OF Jake Cave from the Rays for cash.

Cave joins Tommy Pham as additional outfield depth for Chicago at Triple-A Charlotte. The 33-year-old journeyman hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2024 campaign. He signed a minor league deal with the Rays back in late June. He’s merely organizational fodder at this stage of his career.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that the White Sox are acquiring outfielder Tommy Pham from the Phillies.

Since Pham is not on the 40-man roster, he is eligible to be traded despite the fact that the trade deadline has passed. Pham is expected to join the White Sox when rosters expand on Tuesday. He was 0-for-13 in his brief stint with the Mets earlier this season, and hit .245/.330/.370 in 120 plate appearances for the Pirates last year.
