Pirates transferred RHP Chris Devenski to the 60-day injured list.
Nothing has changed in the prognosis for Devenski who has been shelved since early May due to an illness. This was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Pirates’ 40-man roster for the addition of Davis Wendzel on Sunday.

Pirates placed RHP Chris Devenski on the 15-day injured list with an illness.
Devenski was supposed to return today from a two-game suspension for hitting Sal Stewart, but he’ll be down for at least a couple of weeks. The veteran has given up two runs and five hits in 2 1/3 innings for the Pirates.

Major League Baseball suspended Pirates RHP Chris Devenski three games for intentionally throwing at Reds Sal Stewart over the weekend.
Devenski also received an undisclosed fine. Unless he appeals the suspension, it will begin tonight against the Diamondbacks.

Pirates selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Devenski has been good at Triple-A this season, pitching to a 1.13 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, and 14/2 K/BB ratio in eight innings at Triple-A. He should add some veteran experience to the Pirates’ bullpen.
  • PIT Shortstop #25
Pirates optioned C Rafael Flores and RHP Cam Sanders to Triple-A Indianapolis. Reassigned INF Alika Williams, LHP Joe La Sorsa and RHPs Chris Devenski and Carson Fulmer to minor league camp.
On the pitching side, Devenski had a shot at making the team’s Opening Day bullpen, but struggled to a 6.75 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 5 1/3 innings during Grapefruit League play. Williams had a solid spring offensively, hitting .258 (8-for-31) with a homer and seven RBI, but that wasn’t enough to secure a spot on the Pirates’ Opening Day bench.

Pirates signed RHP Chris Devenski to a minor league contract.
Once a mainstay in the Astros pen, Devenski got hurt in 2020 and has bounced around since, throwing a total of 107 2/3 innings in the majors the last five years. He pitched 16 2/3 innings with a 2.16 ERA for the Mets last year, but apart from that, his best ERA since 2019 is 4.46 in 2023.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #49
Mets RHP Chris Devenski elected free agency.
Devenski pitched extremely well this season in middle relief for New York, registering a strong 2.16 ERA across 16 2/3 innings of work over 13 appearances. The 34-year-old journeyman reliever has made 316 appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2016. He should be able to latch on somewhere this offseason as emergency organizational depth.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #49
Mets send RHP Chris Devenski outright to Triple-A Syracuse.
Devenski will likely remain in the organization once again, keeping him available for the postseason if needed (and if the Mets get there). He has a 2.16 ERA in 13 appearances for the Mets this season.

Mets designated RHP Chris Devenski for assignment.
Devenski has been jettisoned from New York’s relief corps following another brief stint in the big leagues. The 34-year-old veteran reliever has posted a strong 2.16 ERA across 16 2/3 innings over 13 appearances this season. He’ll likely pass through waivers unclaimed and could re-surface at some point in the final week or postseason as a middle relief option.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #49
Mets recalled RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets are reshuffling the back of their bullpen on Thursday, and so Devenski will get another shot with the big club. He has a .230 ERA in 15 2/3 innings with the Mets so far this season.
