Mets selected the contract of RHP Chris Devenski from Triple-A Syracuse.

The former Astros All-Star spent most of the year with Pittsburgh’s minor leagues before being outrighted. He signed with the Mets on August 12. Devenski has a 1.13 ERA in 24 minor-league innings this year and the 35-year-old will be in the low leverage mix for the Mets.

Williams had a solid spring offensively, hitting .258 (8-for-31) with a homer and seven RBI, but that wasn’t enough to secure a spot on the Pirates’ Opening Day bench.
