Owings

Owings spent the last couple months stationed at Triple-A Oklahoma City after signing a minor league deal with the Dodgers back in February. The 32-year-old veteran infielder wasn’t going to be part of Los Angeles’ roster down the stretch so he’s been cut loose to pursue other opportunities.

There’s no room for Owings on the Dodgers’ roster, but someone might grab him for a utility role if he keeps hitting like this; he’s at .333/.417/.571 in 29 plate appearances. The Yankees had him in their organization in the second half of 2022 and might want to consider bringing him back with Oswald Peraza absent.

The 32-year-old Owings appeared in just 11 big league games last season for the Pirates, hitting .160 with no extra base hits. He has just 187 major league plate appearances over the last four years. Owings played 86 games in Triple-A last year, slashing .241/.349/.449 with 15 home runs and four steals. He figures to provide organizational depth across the infield for the Dodgers.

Owings has the ability to elect free agency, but might opt to stick around and wait for another shot in Pittsburgh. The versatile 31-year-old super utility specialist went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week.

Owings has been jettisoned from the Pirates’ roster after getting into 10 contests this season and batting just .160 (4-for-25) with 12 strikeouts. The versatile 31-year-old journeyman will presumably head back to Triple-A Indianapolis, if he winds up clearing waivers, but does have the ability to elect free agency as well.

Owings, 31, was hitting .273/.360/.523 with two homers over 13 games in Triple-A this season. This will be his sixth major league team after spending time with the Orioles last season. With Pittsburgh, he’s likely to serve as infield depth.

Owings and Maggi figure to stick around as extra veteran position player depth for the Pirates at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Owings, 31, struggled in a brief stint with the Orioles last season before latching on with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate. He’s likely to serve as upper-level depth for Pittsburgh this season.

Owings was able to latch on quickly with the Yankees after being released by the Orioles earlier this month. The 30-year-old infielder offers some defensive versatility, but hasn’t hit at all this season. He’ll augment New York’s positional depth in the upper minors moving forward.
