Former No. 9 overall draft pick Colt Griffin was all over the place in his three innings Wednesday. He walked three, hit two batters and threw five wild pitches.
Griffin is 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA in his three starts for Single-A Wilmington. At this point, he doesn’t look like he’ll live up to the promise of his draft position from 2001.

Colt Griffin, who has pitched terribly for Class A Wilmington this season, has a tender right shoulder.
The Royals’ top pick in the 2001 draft is 1-4 with an 8.37 ERA in the Carolina League. He has allowed 40 hits and 28 walks in just 33 innnings, and now with a sore right shoulder, will be shut down for a little while. Colt’s looking like a big bust to us.

Colt Griffin has resumed throwing off a mound following shoulder surgery last year to repair a slight tear in his labrum.
Griffin, a 2001 first-round pick, shouldn’t be far behind at the start of the season. He’ll likely be a part of the bullpen at Double-A Wichita.

According to the Kansas City Star, former first-round pick Colt Griffin will retire due to ongoing shoulder problems.
Griffin is just 23 years old, but struggled to get minor leaguers out prior to the injuries and has had major problems coming back from labrum surgery.

Colt Griffin pitched a scoreless inning yesterday in his first appearance since a promotion to Double-A Wichita.
Griffin was promoted even though he had an 8.73 ERA in eight starts for Single-A Wilmington and had missed most of the last month with a sore shoulder. He’s expected to remain a short reliever for now, though the Royals probably haven’t completely given up on him as a starting pitcher.
