Seabold loses his spot on Toronto’s roster with veteran starter Max Scherzer returning from the injured list for Wednesday’s game against the Phillies. The well-traveled 30-year-old struggled in five appearances with the Blue Jays after coming over from the Tigers in a trade back on May 27.

Seabold was designated for assignment by the Tigers on Sunday, and unsurprisingly, there was interest in the right-hander. He’ll provide some multi-inning depth in the Toronto bullpen.

Seabold loses his spot to Troy Melton. He had a 3.45 ERA and a 14/5 K/BB in 15 2/3 innings for the Tigers, so even though he’s 30 and lacks much in the way of upside, it seems unlikely that he’ll make it through waivers.

He’ll be back in Detroit’s bullpen mix after missing a few weeks with an ankle injury. Seabold isn’t high enough in the pecking order to be a major player in holds or saves leagues, but he had pitched to a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings (eight appearances) in April before the injury.

Seabold suffered the injury when he slipped and fell on the mound while throwing a pitch during Saturday’s contest against the Reds. He’s not expected to miss much more than the minimum time on the injured list. Brenan Hanifee was recalled from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move to take his place in the Tigers’ bullpen.

Seabold heads to Detroit as additional long relief depth shortly after being cut loose by the Blue Jays earlier this week. The 30-year-old swingman holds an inflated 7.79 ERA and 96/44 K/BB ratio across 119 innings over 40 appearances (19 starts) in the big leagues since 2021.

Seabold was signed to a non-roster deal, and he opted out of his minor league contract when he was informed he wouldn’t make the roster. Estrada will be a potential option for Toronto at some point in 2026 in relief.

Seabold augments Toronto’s pitching depth heading into next season after making seven relief appearances split between the Braves and Rays this past season. The 30-year-old former pitching prospect holds a lackluster 7.79 ERA — 5.81 FIP — and 96/44 K/BB ratio across 119 innings over 40 appearances (19 starts) in the big leagues since 2021.

Seabold heads to the open market after refusing an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett following his removal from Atlanta’s 40-man roster at the conclusion of the regular season. The 29-year-old former pitching prospect recorded a serviceable 4.35 ERA across 10 1/3 innings over seven appearances this season in the big leagues.
