Castano, 29, logged time with the Marlins each of the last four seasons, going 2-7 with a 4.47 ERA in 17 starts and seven relief appearances. He’ll make $850,000 next season.

Castano passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will likely opt to remain with the Marlins as extra pitching depth. The 28-year-old left-hander has made a pair of relief appearances this season in the big leagues.

Castano, who was just called up Sunday, allowed five runs in two innings while mopping up last night. He’ll likely clear waivers.

Castano filled in as extra relief help after Johnny Cueto landed on the injured list. He will head back to Triple-A, and lefty Devin Smeltzer will take his place on the active roster.
