Twins reassigned RHP Dan Altavilla, SS Orlando Arcia and C David Bañuelos to minor league camp; released RHP Matt Bowman.
Altavilla and Bowman were in Twins camp as non-roster invitees this spring attempting to win spots in the club’s bullpen. Altavilla made 28 appearances for the White Sox last year. Bowman got into 20 contests for the Orioles last season and should be able to latch on somewhere, likely on a minor league pact.
  • MIN Catcher #91
Twins signed C David Bañuelos to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Bañuelos heads to Minnesota as emergency catching depth behind starter Ryan Jeffers. The 29-year-old backstop got into two games for the Orioles over the past two seasons while spending most of his time at Triple-A Norfolk during that period. There’s a clearer path to regular playing time in a backup role with the Twins than most situations around the league, but he’s not a fantasy-relevant option.
  • FA Catcher #91
Orioles C David Bañuelos elected free agency.
Bañuelos got into two games for the Orioles over the past two seasons as emergency catching depth when injuries struck at the big-league level. He’s merely organizational fodder at this stage of his career.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles sent C David Bañuelos outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Bañuelos was up for Sunday’s first-half finale against the Marlins before being jettisoned from Baltimore’s 40-man roster. The hope for the Orioles is that Jacob Stallings and Alex Jackson can handle things until Adley Rutschman (oblique) is back from the injured list, most likely before the end of July.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles recalled C David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk.
Bañuelos augments Baltimore’s injury-depleted catching mix for Sunday’s game against the Marlins. The 28-year-old backstop is the seventh different catcher to appear with the Orioles this season due to injuries.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles optioned C David Bañuelos to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 28-year-old backstop had been on the team’s taxi squad, so he jumped to the active roster for the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader after Bryan Baker was traded to the Rays. That’s all the time it took them to get Colin Selby up from Triple-A though, so Bañuelos will head back without having appeared in that one ballgame. He’ll continue to function as extra catching depth for the O’s.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles selected the contract of C David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk
The Orioles had a spot on the active roster after dealing reliever Bryan Baker to the Rays. Bañuelos was already on the taxi squad, so the Orioles will go with three catchers for the time being.
  • BAL Catcher #72
Orioles top C prospect Samuel Basallo remains at Triple-A Norfolk.
Baltimore has opted to bring up newly-acquired journeyman backstop Alex Jackson from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of Sunday’s series finale against Atlanta while Gary Sánchez hitting the injured list with a right knee sprain. It’ll be Jacob Stallings handling the catching duties for now as the injuries continue to pile up at the position. The Orioles have even brought up David Bañuelos on the taxi squad as extra insurance. The 20-year-old top prospect holds a .920 OPS with 16 homers through 57 games this season at the Triple-A level. He’s one of the few prospects left in the minors that could make some serious noise for fantasy purposes in the second half.
  • BAL Catcher #99
Gary Sánchez (knee) is absent from the lineup for Sunday’s game against Atlanta.
Sánchez will sit out Sunday’s contest after making an early exit from Saturday’s tilt with right knee pain. The 32-year-old backstop figures to avoid the injured list for the moment. Jacob Stallings will handle the catching duties with David Bañuelos coming up to join the club’s taxi squad in case of an emergency.
  • BAL Catcher #91
Orioles re-signed C David Bañuelos to a minor league contract.
Bañuelos returns to Baltimore as extra organizational catching depth after getting into one contest last season for the Orioles. The 28-year-old backstop figures to open the year back at Triple-A Norfolk.
