Angels purchased the contract of RHP David Carpenter from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Not to be confused with Houston’s righty reliever David Carpenter, the Angels’ Carpenter will be making his first appearance on a big-league roster. A 2009 ninth-round pick, Carpenter’s put up excellent minor-league numbers, compiling a 1.73 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 148/45 K/BB ratio in 130 1/3 innings of work. Just three of those frames have come at the Triple-A level, however. With Scott Downs nursing a minor ankle injury, Carpenter’s first cup of coffee could be brief.

Braves designated RHP David Carpenter for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Ross Detwiler. Carpenter was roughed up for three runs in his last relief outing and that was enough for him to get the heave-ho.
