    Pirates released INF Davis Wendzel.

Wendzel heads to the open market after going unclaimed on waivers. The 29-year-old infielder appeared in two games for the Pirates earlier this season and was jettisoned from Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster over the weekend. He’s merely organizational depth and a temporary stopgap option at this stage of his career.

Pirates designated INF Davis Wendzel for assignment.

Wendzel loses his spot on the club’s 40-man roster to make room for the addition of Noah Murdock on Sunday. The 29-year-old infielder has hit .230/.349/.461 with 10 homers and 38 RBI in 261 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis this season. There’s at least a small chance that he could pique another team’s interest on waivers.

Pirates optioned INF Davis Wendzel to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Brandon Lowe turned out well enough to keep playing after his leg injury, so Wendzel had just four plate appearances in two games with the Pirates this time around. He returns to Triple-A Indianapolis as a depth piece for the Pirates.

Pirates selected the contract of INF Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Indianapolis.

With Brandon Lowe (leg) expected to miss a couple of games, Wendzel will provide the Pirates with extra depth on the infield. It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 29-year-old infielder since he saw 49 plate appearances with the Rangers during the 2024 campaign. Wendzel was slashing .246/.360/.491 with nine homers, 34 RBI and a pair of stolen bases in 211 plate appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Pirates reassigned IF Termarr Johnson, C Derek Berg, IF Nick Cimillio, LHP Nick Dombkowski, IF Duce Gourson, LHP Oddanier Mosqueda, OF Ronny Simon and IF Davis Wendzel to minor league camp.

Johnson was 7-for-19 in Spring Training with no homers or stolen bases, leaving him as a career .327/.411/.531 hitter in three years in big league camp. After hitting .272/.363/.382 for Double A Altoona last year as a 21-year-old, he’ll likely head to Triple-A Indianapolis in 2026.

Reds designated INF Davis Wendzel for assignment.

The Reds acquired Wendzel before the trade deadline after he was designated for assignment by the Rangers. Now he’s been booted off the Reds’ 40-man roster to make room for Rhett Lowder. Wendzel has just six at-bats in the major leagues this year all of which came with Texas.

Rangers designated 3B Davis Wendzel for assignment.

Wendzel had been in the minors since July 4, but this takes him off the 40-man. Odds are that he’ll be claimed, perhaps by a non-contender that would put him right into the lineup. He struggled in 27 major league games this season, batting .128/.163/.234 in 49 plate appearances, but he hit 30 homers in Triple-A last year and is at .299/.381/.496 with six homers in 33 games there this year.
