White Sox acquired INF/OF Luisangel Acuña and RHP Thomas Pauley from the Mets for OF Luis Robert Jr.
This doesn’t seem like a sufficient return, but the White Sox obviously didn’t want to pay Robert $20 million this year. Acuña sort of held his own as a 23-year-old in the majors last season, hitting .234/.293/.274 in 193 plate appearances. He’s intriguing defensively at several key positions, he runs very well, he has decent plate discipline and he’s not entirely absent of power. It seems like a utility profile, but given that he’s just turning 24 in March, there’s some hope for him as a regular, perhaps in center field. He’ll probably battle Derek Hill, Tristan Peters and Everson Pereira for that spot in spring training. Pauley, a 2025 12th-rounder out of Harvard, allowed one run in four innings in his pro debut last season.

White Sox avoided arbitration with OF Derek Hill by agreeing to a one-year, $900,000 contract.
Hill was claimed off waivers at the end of the 2025 season, and the 29-year-old will be the fourth outfielder for Chicago to open the 2026 campaign; barring something unforeseeable.

White Sox claimed OF Derek Hill off waivers from the Marlins.
Hill heads to Chicago as a temporary replacement for an injured Mike Tauchman (knee) to close out the regular season. The White Sox are familiar with the 29-year-old center fielder from his time as a notable prospect with the division-rival Tigers earlier in his career. He batted .222/.268/.363 with seven round-trippers and 11 thefts in 85 games over the past two seasons for Miami before being designated for assignment earlier this week.
  • MIA Center Fielder #3
Marlins designated OF Derek Hill for assignment.
Hill’s time with Miami is over after batting .222/.268/.363 with seven round-trippers and 11 thefts in 85 games over the past two seasons. The 29-year-old center fielder will get a head start on the offseason and shouldn’t have too much trouble latching on somewhere else as a potential bench outfielder.

Marlins placed OF Derek Hill on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Hill suffered the injury during Monday’s game, and the 29-year-old will need to miss at least a week more. A corresponding move to replace Hill — potentially for the rest of the season — should be announced shortly.
  • MIA Center Fielder #3
Derek Hill left Monday’s game due to right hamstring discomfort.
Hill was replaced by Victor Mesa Jr., and Jakob Marsee’s outfield tour continued; he opened the game in right, moved to left after Xavier Edwards was ejected and then slid over to center in Hill’s place.
  • MIA Left Fielder #28
Kyle Stowers is absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Red Sox.
It’s a rare off day for Stowers against a right-handed starter — Brayan Bello in this instance — as he attempts to work through a frosty stretch at the dish since August 1 where he’s batted .228 (13-for-57) with two homers and 17 strikeouts over a 15-game span. It’ll be Heriberto Hernandez in left field with Derek Hill taking over in center field.
  • MIA Center Fielder #3
Marlins activated OF Derek Hill from the 10-day injured list.
Hill missed just a couple of days over the minimum with his finger sprain. He will probably platoon with the left-handed-hitting Jakob Marsee for now. He is batting .211/.276/.322 in 100 plate appearances in between injuries this season.
  • MIA Center Fielder #3
Marlins placed OF Derek Hill on the 10-day injured list with a left middle finger sprain.
Hill winds up back on the injured list for the third time this season. At least this time he isn’t dealing with a wrist issue. The 29-year-old outfielder has hit just .211/.276/.322 with two homers and six steals in 33 games.

Derek Hill went 2-for-4 with two RBI against the Orioles on Saturday.
Hill got the start in center field for the Marlins with a left-hander on the mound on Saturday. He knocked a base hit to drive in the first run of the game in the seventh inning, then drove in one more run with a single in the ninth. The 29-year-old outfielder is hitting .213/.278/.326 with two homers, 13 runs scored, and six steals across 99 plate appearances.
