Leo Rivas will once again start at second base and bat ninth for the Mariners for Game 5 of the ALCS against the Blue Jays on Friday.
Rivas started in Game 4 with Victor Robles shifting to the bench and that’s the same alignment that the M’s will use against Kevin Gausman on Friday evening. Here’s the full lineup: Julio Rodríguez (CF), Cal Raleigh (C), Jorge Polanco (DH), Josh Naylor (1B), Randy Arozarena (LF), Eugenio Suárez (3B), J.P. Crawford (SS), Dominic Canzone (RF) and Rivas (2B).

Leo Rivas is at second base and batting ninth for Thursday’s ALCS Game 4 matchup against the Blue Jays.
Rivas will get his first postseason start with a struggling Victor Robles heading to the bench as Seattle tries to mix some things up following a Game 3 rout at the hands of the Blue Jays. Here’s the full lineup: Randy Arozarena (LF), Cal Raleigh (C), Julio Rodríguez (CF), Jorge Polanco (DH), Josh Naylor (1B), Eugenio Suárez (3B), Dominic Canzone (RF), J.P. Crawford (SS) and Rivas (2B).
  • SEA Right Fielder #8
The Mariners are going with their usual lineup against righties, with Dominic Canzone at DH, in Wednesday’s ALCS Game 3 against the Blue Jays.
As in the first two games of the series, it’s Randy Arozarena (LF), Cal Raleigh (C), Julio Rodríguez (CF), Jorge Polanco (2B), Josh Naylor (1B), Eugenio Suárez (3B), Canzone (DH), Victor Robles (RF) and J.P. Crawford (SS). Canzone is 0-for-6 in the series and 1-for-12 overall in the postseason, but the Mariners aren’t looking to try anything different while being up 2-0.

Dominic Canzone is starting at DH in Sunday’s ALCS Game 1 against the Blue Jays.
The Mariners are going with their typical lineup against righties. It’d be interesting to know if any thought was given to starting Game 5 hero Leo Rivas at second and putting Jorge Polanco at DH, stregthening the defense some. The team, though, is sticking with Canzone, who went 1-for-6 with one RBI during the ALDS. The lineup: Randy Arozarena (LF), Cal Raleigh (C), Julio Rodríguez (CF), Polanco (2B), Josh Naylor (1B), Eugenio Suárez (3B), Canzone (DH), Victor Robles (RF) and J.P. Crawford (SS).
  • SEA 1st Baseman #12
Josh Naylor is in the lineup for Saturday’s ALDS Game 1 matchup against the Tigers.
Naylor could wind up missing time during the ALDS if his wife goes into labor, according to Adam Jude of The Seattle Times. The 28-year-old slugger is expected to fly to Arizona to be with his wife for the birth of their first child — due Saturday — once she goes into labor. It’s a developing situation, but it appears Naylor will be in there on Saturday night at T-Mobile Park for the outset of the best-of-five series. Here’s the full lineup to face Detroit’s bullpen: Randy Arozarena (LF), Cal Raleigh (C), Julio Rodríguez (CF), Naylor (1B), Jorge Polanco (2B), Eugenio Suárez (3B), Dominic Canzone (DH), Victor Robles (RF) and J.P. Crawford (SS).
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles was scratched from the Mariners’ starting lineup on Friday evening against the Dodgers.
No word yet on the reason for the late scratch, but it seems likely that the 28-year-old outfielder is dealing with some sort of ailment. Dominic Canzone replaced him in right field and will bat seventh against Emmet Sheehan and the Dodgers.
  • SEA Right Fielder #8
Dominic Canzone went 1-for-3 with a solo homer against the Rockies on Tuesday.
The Mariners had gotten shut out through four innings before Canzone put the team on the board with a solo homer in the fifth off McCade Brown. It was the 11th homer of the season for the 28-year-old outfielder. He’s slashing .297/.353/.485 with 28 runs scored and 30 RBI across 252 plate appearances.
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Royals.
Robles has been losing playing time against right-handed pitching to Dominic Canzone, and that will continue on Thursday. Robles has only started four of the last seven games and is 4-for-17 this week with just one RBI. Canzone will start in right field and bat seventh on Thursday.
  • SEA Right Fielder #8
Dominic Canzone crushed three homers as part of a 5-for-5 game against the Royals on Tuesday.
It feels really weird not to lead the recap with this kind of performance, but Canzone’s homers were his eighth, ninth and 10th of the season, which doesn’t quite measure up to Cal Raleigh hitting his 55th and 56th. Still, it’s a remarkable performance from a 28-year-old with an excellent .304/.363/.491 line in 237 plate appearances. He joins Kyle Stowers, Nick Kurtz and Shea Langeliers in collecting five hits and three homers in a game this season. It’s actually happened as many times this season as it had the previous six years combined. He’s just the second Mariner ever to do it; Mickey Brantley went 5-for-6 with three homers against Cleveland in 1987.
  • SEA Right Fielder #8
Dominic Canzone (forearm) is back in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Padres.
Canzone is back in right field and batting seventh following a six-game absence after being hit by a pitch on the left wrist. The 28-year-old received a cortisone injection a couple days ago and is feeling much better. The hope here is that he should be ready to roll moving forward, which is important with Victor Robles, who is out of the lineup on Tuesday night, likely to have the appeal for his league-issued 10-game suspension heard in the coming days.
