Nikhazy

Nikhazy heads to Chicago as emergency pitching depth following an avalanche of injuries. The 26-year-old lefty has made three appearances for the Guardians over the last two years.

The 26-year-old southpaw was with the White Sox for just two games this time around, allowing one run on one hit and two walks in his two innings of work. Osvaldo Bido joined the team’s active roster on Sunday to take Nikhazy’s spot.

He’ll add a fresh arm that’s capable of working multiple innings to a White Sox’ bullpen that has been taxed recently. Nikhazy was off to a solid start at the Triple-A level, posting a 3.52 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 10/3 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings in his first two starts.

Nikhazy was waived by the Guardians last week, but will now find a new home. He had a 5.02 ERA in 86 innings at Triple-A last year.

Nikhazy has been removed from Cleveland’s 40-man roster to make room for lefty swingman Kolby Allard. The 26-year-old made two made two appearances for Cleveland last season, allowing six runs over four innings of work. It’s possible he’ll garner some interest on waivers as organizational depth.

The 25-year-old southpaw was hit hard in his lone appearance with the Guardians this season, giving up six runs on five hits over his three innings of work. He’ll provide length out of the team’s bullpen with Joey Cantillo starting in place of Luis Ortiz on Thursday evening.

It’s definitely not what you want to hear. Lively left with a trainer following a handful of warmup pitches at the outset of the fourth inning after tossing three scoreless frames to open the contest. It certainly sounds like a potential injured list situation, which could lead to an opportunity for a younger arm like Doug Nikhazy at the highest level.

Seven of the 11 balls in play against Nikhazy were hit at least 99.8 mph, resulting in a triple, two doubles and two singles. A lack of velocity is going to be a problem for him, particularly since he’s pretty average in the command department. He’ll return to Triple-A now after serving as the 27th man today.
