Tigers reassigned RHPs Phil Bickford, Dugan Darnell, Tyler Owens and Troy Watson to minor league camp.
As is the case with most of the early cuts at this time of the spring, there are no real surprises among the group. All four pitchers are dealing with injuries and will continue their rehab on the minor league side of camp. The Tigers are now down to 63 players remaining in major league camp.

Tigers re-signed RHP Dugan Darnell to a minor league contact with an invitation to spring training.
Darnell went from the Rockies to the Pirates to the Tigers on waiver claims earlier this winter before being non-tendered by Detroit. Now he’s back with the Tigers, though he’s expected to miss at least the first month of the season after August hip surgery. The 28-year-old had a 3.19 ERA and a 63/19 K/BB in 53 2/3 innings for the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate last season. He also had a 3.86 ERA over 11 2/3 innings in his major league debut.

Tigers non-tendered RHP Jason Foley, RHP Tanner Rainey, LHP Sean Guenther, RHP Dugan Darnell, RHP Tyler Mattison and RHP Jack Little.
All six hurlers were designated for assignment, and now all six will hit free agency. Foley is a former closer who should see interest on the market, but won’t be ready to go until the second half after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Tigers designated RHP Jason Foley, RHP Tanner Rainey, LHP Sean Guenther, RHP Dugan Darnell, RHP Tyler Mattison and RHP Jack Little for assignment.
Foley is the most prominent name here as Detroit clears out several spots on the 40-man roster by booting nearly a half-dozen relievers from the mix. The 30-year-old former closer is recovering from shoulder surgery and won’t be an option until the second half of next season.

Tigers claimed RHP Dugan Darnell off waivers from the Pirates.
Darnell, 28, had just been picked up by Pittsburgh on waivers from the Rockies on Halloween. He probably would have stuck on Colorado’s roster if not for hip surgery in August that will probably cost him the beginning of 2026. If he recovers well, he might prove useful in middle relief. He had a 3.19 ERA and a 63/19 K/BB in 53 2/3 innings in Triple-A last season, and he gave up five runs over 11 2/3 innings for the Rockies.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #52
Pirates designated RHP Dugan Darnell and RHP Michael Darrell-Hicks for assignment.
Darnell was claimed off waivers last month after undergoing hip surgery back in August. Darrell-Hicks posted an inflated 7.45 ERA over 9 2/3 innings over seven appearances split between the Angels and Pirates this past season as a rookie.

Pirates claimed RHP Dugan Darnell off waivers from the Rockies.
Darnell underwent season-ending hip surgery at the end of August and the Rockies did not add him back to the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will compete for a bullpen spot with Pittsburgh this spring, assuming good health, of course.

Dugan Darnell will undergo season-ending hip surgery and is expected to miss roughly eight months.
Darnell hit the shelf last weekend with left hip inflammation and was almost immediately transferred to the 60-day injured list, ending his rookie campaign. He’s going to undergo a procedure to repair a torn hip labrum and isn’t expected back until some point until the early stages of next season.

Rockies transferred RHP Dugan Darnell to the 60-day injured list.
Darnell will miss the remainder of the season after hitting the injured list on Friday with left hip inflammation. The 28-year-old righty finishes his rookie season with a serviceable 3.86 ERA across 11 2/3 innings (nine appearances).
  • COL Relief Pitcher #52
Rockies placed RHP Dugan Darnell on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation.
Darnell was called up earlier this month and compiled a respectable 3.86 ERA across 11 2/3 innings (nine appearances) in his first taste of the big leagues.
