Salazar

Salazar was sent outright to Triple-A after the season, and the 27-year-old will now have a chance to join a new organization and potentially compete for one of the last spots in a bullpen this spring.

Salazar heads back to the minors ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Cardinals. The 27-year-old righty has posted a ghastly 8.38 ERA across 29 innings (30 appearances) this season at the highest level.

Salazar gives the Nationals a fresh arm in the bullpen, and he’ll replace Jorge López after López was designated for assignment in the corresponding transaction

Salazar has allowed 17 runs on 28 hits in 15 2/3 innings for the Nationals out of the bullpen this season. He will head to the minors to make room for Michael Soroka on the active roster.

Salazar is coming up with Jordan Weems going on the injured list. He’s appeared in one game with Washington this season and threw two scoreless innings. Claimed off waivers from the Dodgers this year, Salazar had an 0.75 ERA in 10 appearances with Rochester this year.

Salazar will head back to Triple-A with the Nationals recalling DJ Herz for a start Tuesday against the Padres. The right-hander will be an up-and-down arm for the Nats for the remainder of 2024.

Salazar made one relief outing earlier this year for the Dodgers and holds a decent 4.53 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 37/17 K/BB ratio across 47 2/3 innings (20 appearances, seven starts) this season at the Triple-A level. The 26-year-old righty was claimed off waivers last month from the Mariners and will be making his Nationals debut when he gets into a game.

Salazar didn’t pitch in the majors with the Mariners after being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers last month. The 26-year-old does have nine major league appearances under his belt, and he’s sporting a 6.91 ERA in 14 1/3 innings. He has a 7.23 ERA lifetime in seven starts and 31 relief appearances in Triple-A.

The Mariners added a pair of players to the 40-man roster, so Salazar gets the heave-ho from the roster. If the 26-year-old goes unclaimed, he will report back to Triple-A Tacoma.

Los Angeles was probably hoping to sneak Salazar through waivers after designating him for assignment earlier this week, but he’ll head to Triple-A Tacoma as extra relief depth for Seattle. The 26-year-old righty threw a pair of scoreless frames in his lone appearance for the Dodgers this season.
