Erasmo Ramírez surrendered one run over five innings Saturday in a World Baseball Classic start for Nicaragua against the Netherlands.
Ramírez did everything possible to put Nicaragua in position for their first-ever win in the international tournament but they ended up falling short, thanks to a walk-off homer from Ozzie Albies. The 35-year-old journeyman has expressed a desire to continue pitching and could wind up getting a look somewhere based on this performance against a Netherlands lineup that featured a ton of big-league talent.

Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports that Erasmo Ramírez wants to pitch as a starter in 2026.
The 35-year-old right-hander has pitched almost exclusively out of the bullpen since the 2018 season where he made 10 starts for the Mariners. He did a nice job in nine appearances with the Twins in 2025, posting a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 5/2 K/BB ratio over 11 innings. It’s tough to see him landing anything more than a minor league deal with an invitation to big league camp this winter — regardless of role.

Twins RHP Erasmo Ramírez elected free agency.
Ramírez heads to the open market in search of a new opportunity after posting a strong 2.45 ERA across 11 innings (nine appearances) this season for Minnesota. The soft-tossing 35-year-old journeyman has had a remarkable career pitching for seven different organizations and making 336 appearances (96 starts) over a 14-year span dating back to 2012.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #30
Twins sent RHP Erasmo Ramírez outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
Ramírez went unclaimed on waivers after being removed from Minnesota’s pitching staff over the weekend. The 35-year-old journeyman has the option to elect free agency or stick around as extra organizational depth for the rest of the season.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #30
Twins designated RHP Erasmo Ramírez for assignment.
Ramírez has been jettisoned from Minnesota’s pitching staff to make room for former top prospect Taj Bradley after posting a strong 2.45 ERA across 11 innings (nine appearances). The 35-year-old journeyman has had a remarkable career pitching for seven different organizations over a 14-year span.

Erasmo Ramirez picked up the save against the Guardians on Sunday.
Cole Sands pitched the eighth inning, leaving the ninth inning for Michael Tonkin. Unfortunately, Tonkin allowed two runs to score. The Twins turned to Ramirez with one out, clinging to a one-run lead. He retired both batters he faced, recording the save. For Ramirez, who debuted in 2012 with the Mariners, it was just the sixth save of his career. This has become a situation for fantasy managers to avoid, though Sands is still probably the best bet for saves going forward.

Twins selected the contract of RHP Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A St. Paul.
Ramirez will have a chance to pitch in an MLB game for the first time this season. The 35-year-old will be a multi-inning relief option while he’s with the Twins.

Twins optioned OF Emmanuel Rodriguez and RHPs Matt Canterino, Marco Raya and Travis Adams to Triple-A St. Paul; reassigned RHPs Randy Dobnak, RHP Erasmo Ramirez, RHP Cory Lewis, C Alex Isola and INF Yunior Severino to minor league camp.
The headliner here is Rodriguez, though the Twins’ top prospect was never really a candidate to break camp with the big league club — especially after missing time with an ankle injury during spring camp. Dobnak could have potentially pushed to make the Opening Day roster in a long reliever role, but he’ll begin the season as extra depth at the Triple-A level instead. Ramirez could have been an option for the bullpen, but suffered a “significant tear” in his shoulder earlier in the week.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Erasmo Ramirez has been diagnosed with a “significant tear” in his right shoulder.
Ramirez doesn’t have an official return timeline, but he’s going to wind up missing most, if not all, of the upcoming season. The 34-year-old journeyman signed a minor-league pact with the Twins and was attempting to make the season-opening bullpen in a long relief role.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Twins signed RHP Erasmo Ramírez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Ramírez is aiming for a 14th season in the major leagues. He had a 4.35 ERA in 20 2/3 innings for the Rays last year, which is nearly identical to his career mark of 4.37 in 96 starts and 231 relief appearances.
