Angels signed RHP Fernando Romero to a minor league contract.
It’s unclear whether this minor league agreement with the Angels includes an invitation to the MLB side of spring training. Romero, who turns 28 years old on December 24, posted a rather underwhelming 4.49 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 76/51 K/BB ratio across 118 1/3 innings (28 appearances) last season for the Yokohama BayStars in Japan. The right-hander holds a career 5.17 ERA in 69 2/3 major league frames.

Fernando Romero officially signed a one-year, $724,000 contract with the Yokohama DeNa BayStars in the Japanese Central League.
The deal also includes a club option for the 2022 season. The Twins will receive around $300,000 in return. Despite his poor numbers over 69 2/3 innings at the big league level, Romero was still considered one of the Twins top pitching prospects and has terrific stuff. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s able to put it all together and rebuild his value overseas.

The Twins officially released Romero on Friday, freeing him to make the move overseas. The 25-year-old hurler posted a 5.17 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 63/30 K/BB ratio across 69 2/3 career innings at the big league level with the Twins.

    Twins released RHP Fernando Romero.
Romero didn’t report to spring training because of what the Twins called a visa issue and he was a no-show for summer camp, as well, at which point they put him on the restricted list. His whereabouts are unclear at the moment, but the Twins obviously have decided to move on. Romero holds a career 5.17 ERA over 26 major league appearances, but he’ll turn just 26 next week and is a former top prospect, so there will be interest in his services.

Twins placed RHP Fernando Romero on the restricted list.
Romero still hasn’t reported to Twins’ camp because of a visa issue and it’s unclear when he might show up. Obviously, he’s unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster at this point.

Fernando Romero has yet to arrive to Twins’ spring traning due to a customs issue.
Romero was expected to compete for a spot in the team’s Opening Day bullpen, but it sounds like he may not make it to camp at all -- which would lead to him beginning the season in the minor leagues. The 25-year-old hurler owns a 5.17 ERA and 1.57 WHIP over 69 2/3 innings in his big league career.
