Pirates RHP prospect Gage Hinsz scattered six hits over seven shutout innings Tuesday in a win for Low-A West Virginia.
The victory snapped a four-game winless streak for the right-hander. Despite a low strikeout rate (6.09 K/9) and allowing way too much contact (.295 BAA), Hinsz carries a steady 3.45 ERA over eight starts this year. He’s made big strides with his control, allowing just seven walks over 44 1/3 innings this season. Last year, he yielded 23 free passes in only 38 innings of work.
