Twins placed RHP Garrett Acton on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
Acton heads to the shelf prior to Tuesday’s game against the Mariners after posting a strong 2.74 ERA and 9/3 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings over four appearances. The 27-year-old is likely facing a lengthy absence since shoulder issues are typically multi-week issues.

Twins recalled RHP Garrett Acton from Triple-A St. Paul.
Acton, who was acquired from the Marlins on Thursday, will get his first opportunity to show the Twins what he can do at the big league level. He’ll function in a middle relief role initially, but could move to high-leverage work if he proves to be effective. Zak Kent was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move on Sunday.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #54
Twins acquired RHP Garrett Acton from the Marlins for RHP Logan Whitaker.
The 27-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment by the Fish on Sunday after they acquired Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays. Acton has made just one appearance in the big leagues since the 2023 season, throwing one scoreless inning for the Rays in 2025. He’ll add extra bullpen depth for the Twins.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #54
Marlins designated RHP Garrett Acton for assignment.
The Marlins needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Sunday’s acquisition of Leo Jiménez from the Blue Jays and Acton drew the short straw this time around. There’s a chance that that 27-year-old hurler could pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Marlins.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #54
Marlins optioned RHP Garrett Acton to Triple-A Jacksonville
Acton made a strong case for a job in the Marlins’ bullpen, throwing 5 1/3 scoreless innings this spring while striking out six and walking four. It seems like the Marlins will have him work on that command in the minors to start the season.
  • MIA Relief Pitcher #54
Marlins claimed RHP Garrett Acton off waivers from the Rockies.
Acton was designated for assignment back on January 22nd, so it’s unclear why this move is just happening now. The Rockies needed to clear room to sign Willi Castro, and Acton had earlier been claimed off waivers from the Rays after pitching to a 3.68 ERA and a 71/27 K/BB in 58 2/3 innings for Triple-A Durham last season. He has a chance to win a job in the Marlins bullpen.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #54
Rockies designated RHP Garrett Acton for assignment.
Acton was a waiver claim from the Rays in November after returning from Tommy John to post a 3.68 ERA and a 71/27 K/BB in 58 2/3 innings for Triple-A Durham last season. He’ll probably be stashed by another team and then DFA’d again before you know it.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #54
Rockies claimed RHP Garrett Acton off waivers from the Rays.
Acton, 27, returned from Tommy John surgery to post a 3.68 ERA and a 71/27 K/BB in 58 2/3 innings in Triple-A last season. He also pitched one scoreless frame in the majors for the Rays. He’ll get a chance to compete for a spot in the Rockies pen in spring training.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #31
Rays designated RHP Alex Faedo, RHP Garrett Acton, RHP Caleb Boushley, RHP Joey Gerber, RHP Cole Wilcox and OF Stuart Fairchild for assignment.
You’d be excused for not knowing any of these players were even on Tampa Bay’s 40-man roster; the five pitchers combined to throw 6 1/3 innings for the Rays last season and Fairchild was hurt one day after being acquired from the Braves in July. Faedo, who was acquired from the Tigers in February, ended up missing the entire season with shoulder problems after a rehab assignment in July went badly.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #54
Rays optioned RHP Garrett Acton to Triple-A Durham.
Acton threw 21 pitches in a scoreless innings, with two walks, on Sunday, so the Rays will send him down to make room for Joe Boyle, who is being recalled to start on Monday. Acton has thrown well at Triple-A this season, so he should get another opportunity in the big league either this year or next.
