    Diamondbacks released INF Grae Kessinger.
Kessinger has been cut loose by Arizona after passing through waivers unclaimed following his removal over the weekend from the club’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old projects as a bench infielder at the highest level. He’ll most likely have to settle for a minor league contract, but should be able to latch on somewhere else.
  • ARI Shortstop #16
Diamondbacks designated INF Grae Kessinger for assignment.
Kessinger gets caught up in a flurry of moves as Arizona’s front office clears a 40-man roster spot ahead of Saturday’s impending slugfest at Wrigley Field.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #47
Diamondbacks option LHP Tommy Henry, INF Grae Kessinger and OF Jorge Barrosa to Triple-A Reno.
Henry will likely be one of the first arms up for Arizona when they need help in the form of a multi-inning southpaw. Kessinger also has a chance to earn time as a utility option.
  • ARI Shortstop #9
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that Blaze Alexander has a Grade 1 oblique strain.
Alexander will be out for “weeks, not days” according to Lovullo. That means Alexander won’t be ready for Opening Day, although he wasn’t considered a lock to make the roster, anyway. Garrett Hampson and Grae Kessinger both have better shots of opening with the Diamondbacks with Alexander not avaiable.
  • ARI Shortstop #11
Diamondbacks acquired INF Grae Kessinger from the Astros for RHP Matthew Linskey.
Kessinger lost his spot on Houston’s 40-man roster a couple weeks ago when the club signed veteran slugger Christian Walker. The 27-year-old offers a cornucopia of defensive versatility, but he simply hasn’t hit a lick at the highest level over the past two years, batting .131/.243/.213 with one homer in 70 plate appearances. He’s merely extra bench depth for Arizona heading into next season.
  • HOU Shortstop #11
Astros designated INF Grae Kessinger for assignment.
Kessinger has been removed from Houston’s 40-man roster to clear space for veteran slugger Christian Walker. The 27-year-old got into 48 contests for the Astros over the last two years, batting .131/.243/.213 with one homer in 70 plate appearances.
  • HOU 3rd Baseman #2
Alex Bregman left Wednesday’s game to a standing ovation in the fourth inning against the Mariners.
He went 0-for-1 before leaving. This isn’t injury-related, but rather a chance for the fans of the Astros to cheer on Bregman in what very well could be his last home regular-season game as a member of the Houston organization. Grae Kessinger is now at second base with Shae Whitcomb moving to third.
  • HOU Shortstop #16
Astros recalled INF Grae Kessinger from Triple-A Sugar Land.
With Chas McCormick (wrist) being placed on the IL, the Astros will bring up Kessinger to fill a bench infield spot. The 27-year-old was up with the Astros for 11 weeks earlier this year but started only two games and went 0-for-15 in total. He doesn’t figure to play much this time around either.
  • HOU Left Fielder #20
Astros placed Chas McCormick on the 10-day IL with a fractured left wrist.
McCormick suffered the injury last night, so his placement on the injury list is just a formality at this point. Given the nature of the fracture, it’s likely that McCormick will be out for the remainder of the regular season. Grae Kessinger was called up in a corresponding move.
  • HOU Shortstop #16
Astros optioned INF Grae Kessinger to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Kessinger had received just four plate appearances since the Astros called him up on July 2. He’s spent a total of 11 weeks on the team’s active roster this year and started only two games, going 0-for-15 in total.
