Twins optioned OFs Emmanuel Rodriguez and Gabriel Gonzalez, LHPs Connor Prielipp and Kendry Rojas, RHPs John Klein, Marco Raya and Andrew Morris to Triple-A St. Paul; Optioned OF Hendry Mendez and C Patrick Winkel to Double-A Wichita.
By moving nine players out of big league camp on Monday, the Twins are now down to 49 players remaining. Rodriguez, 23, was absolutely sizzling at the plate in Grapefruit League play — hitting .421 (8-for-19) with a pair of homers and four RBI. As long as he’s able to stay healthy, it shouldn’t be long before he breaks through and makes his debut with the Twins.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher
Twins selected the contracts of LHP Kendry Rojas, OF Gabriel Gonzalez, LHP Connor Prielipp, RHP Andrew Morris, OF Hendry Mendez and RHP John Klein from Triple-A St. Paul.
Rojas is the highest-profile prospect to join Minnesota’s 40-man roster in advance of next month’s Rule 5 Draft after coming over from the Blue Jays in the Louis Varland trade back in July. The soon-to-be 23-year-old southpaw posted a 4.70 ERA and 90/32 K/BB ratio across 69 innings over 19 appearances (18 starts) across four minor league levels.
  • PHI Outfield
Phillies acquired OF Hendry Mendez and INF Robert Moore from the Brewers for INF Oliver Dunn.
Mendez represents a bit of a lottery ticket for the Phillies after posting a .678 OPS with three homers in 66 games this past season in the lower levels of Milwaukee’s minor league system. The 20-year-old outfielder is still far off from potentially reaching the majors.
