Giants acquired LHP Henry Lalane and INF Kaeden Kent from the Yankees for OF Heliot Ramos.

It’s not a bad return for San Francisco as they pivot towards more of a long-tern rebuilding project. Lalane was one of the hottest pitching prospects in baseball last month as he’s looked like an impactful starter again following a couple injury-marred seasons. He’s a worthwhile gamble for the Giants considering how starved they are for pitching in the minors.

The Yankees are nearing a deal to acquire Heliot Ramos from the Giants, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Left-hander Henry LaLane will be part of the return, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. This doesn’t seem great for Ramos. He might play regularly for now, but if things work out for the Yankees, he’ll finish the season starting primarily against lefties. It’ll be interesting to see if the team sends down Jasson Domínguez here (assuming he’s not in the trade) or maybe gives up on Amed Rosario. Ramos’s departure will leave the Giants even more punchless for now, but as a bad defensive corner outfielder probably best utilized as a DH, he didn’t seem like a long-term fit alongside Rafael Devers and Bryce Eldridge.

Yankees LHP prospect Henry Lalane recorded 11 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Friday for Low-A Tampa.

Lalane has been the hottest pitching prospect in baseball since late June and it’s not remotely close. The 6-foot-7 southpaw has recorded back-to-back double-digit strikeout outings, spinning 14 consecutive scoreless innings with a pristine 23/0 K/BB ratio during that stretch. He’s back sitting in the mid-to-upper 90s with his fastball after missing most of the past two years due to injury. Now healthy, he has a chance to move quickly through New York’s system, making him a must-roster prospect in dynasty formats.
