Ramos went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will presumably elect to remain with the Reds as extra organizational outfield depth for now.

Ramos figures to occupy a bench role for the Reds moving forward. The 31-year-old outfielder hasn’t appeared in the majors since mid-May and gets the call back up after slashing .315/.399/.522 with nine homers and four steals across 234 plate appearances over 54 games for Triple-A Louisville.

Ramos will join teammate Joey Votto at Triple-A Louisville this weekend to kick off rehab assignments. The 31-year-old journeyman outfielder landed on the injured list back in late May with a right hip strain. He’s likely to remain stationed in the upper minors once he wraps up his rehab assignment.

Ramos has missed the Reds’ last three contests due to the injury, so ultimately they made the decision to stop playing short-handed and give him the time that he needs to recover. Will Benson was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move on Saturday.
