Anderson heads back down to the minors with Justin Slaten coming back from the injured list. The 26-year-old rookie has allowed just three runs over eight innings of work across three appearances for the Red Sox this season.

With Sonny Gray (hamstring) back, the Red Sox didn’t need another starting pitcher up with the big league team, so Jake Bennett was sent back to the minors and Anderson will occupy a multi-inning relief role in Boston’s bullpen.

Anderson pitched well in three relief appearances for the Red Sox, allowing three runs over eight innings of work. He’ll return to the minors until Boston has the flexibility to bring him back in a couple weeks.

Anderson receives his first promotion to the majors after spending the last six years in Boston’s system. The 26-year-old righty should provide some length out of the bullpen since he was working out of the rotation at Triple-A Worcester.
