Pete Fairbanks left Monday’s game against the Diamondbacks in the ninth inning with an injury.

It seemed like it might be a recurrence of his nerve problems with his hand. Fairbanks walked the only batter he faced before departing with a 7-6 lead in the ninth. Jack Ralston replaced him and ended up taking a blown save and a loss. If Fairbanks returns to the IL, Calvin Faucher will be the favorite for saves in the Marlins pen the rest of the way.

Marlins recalled RHP Jack Ralston from Triple-A Jacksonville.

It’s the first trip to the big leagues for the 29-year-old right-hander and it has certainly been earned. Ralston posted a minuscule 1.66 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and a 75/29 K/BB ratio over 59 2/3 innings in 39 appearances at Triple-A Jacksonville. If that can carry over at the MLB level, he could work his way into some high leverage work in the Marlins’ bullpen.
