Walsh inked a minor league pact with the Braves back in February and heads back to test the free agent waters after posting a 2.31 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 8/8 K/BB ratio across 11 2/3 innings (11 appearances) for Triple-A Gwinnett. The 28-year-old righty made three relief appearances for the Cardinals back in 2022 and hasn’t gotten back to the majors ever since.

All five were in Braves camp this spring as non-roster invitees with no real shot at making Atlanta’s season-opening roster. García, López and Evans have all spent time in the big leagues, while Holmes and Walsh figure to continue providing extra organizational relief depth back at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Walsh was cut loose by the Cardinals last July after struggling at the Triple-A level. The 28-year-old righty made three relief appearances for St. Louis during the 2022 campaign. He’s merely extra organizational relief depth for Atlanta heading into the 2024 season.

The 28-year-old right struggled at Triple-A Memphis this season, posting g a5.28 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 34/23 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings.

Walsh made three relief appearances last season for the Cardinals and will open the 2023 campaign in the upper minors as organizational relief depth.

Walsh has been sent back to the minors to make room for outfielder Tyler O’Neill to return to the Cardinals’ lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rays. The 26-year-old rookie right-hander has allowed four runs over 2 2/3 innings in three relief appearances this season at the big-league level.

Walsh was added to the Cardinals’ 40-man roster last November, but failed to make the team’s Opening Day roster in a relief role. Spangenberg is the other notable inclusion here as he’ll head to Triple-A Memphis to get some at-bats in before being an option at some point later this season.
