Indians optioned INF Jason Donald to Triple-A Columbus.
Donald batted just .178 with a .188 on-base percentage in 16 games for the Tribe. He should be back up on the major league roster at some point later this summer.

Jason Donald had a three-run homer and a two-run single off the bench Tuesday in the Indians’ 13-0 victory over high-A Carolina.
Donald has made the Indians, but since Jose Lopez did too, he probably won’t get quite as much playing time as hoped. Expect most of his starts to come against left-handers, leaving him with little value in AL-only leagues.

Indians manager Manny Acta expects Jason Donald to retain his utility role with the team this season.
“Donald has a leg up because of the job he did last year,” Acta said. “We’re going to throw him in the outfield and give him more games at third base this spring. He’s got a leg up, plain and simple.”

Dan Wheeler has been told he’ll make the Indians’ Opening Day roster.
Jason Donald and Shelley Duncan have also made the club, while Matt Pagnozzi, Gregorio Petit and Felix Pie will not but will remain in big league camp for now. Wheeler holds an 8.00 ERA this spring but has recorded nine strikeouts.

Jason Donald went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
Donald came into the game hitting just .240 this spring, but the big day has bumped his average up to .293. He started at second base but has also seen time in the outfield this spring, as he tries to add more versatility in preparation for a utility role.

According to MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian, the Jason Donald outfield experiment could influence the way the Indians align their Opening Day bench.
Donald started in centerfield for the second game in a row on Friday, and is getting a hard look as a backup outfielder. “We need to see more,” manager Manny Acta said. “It gives us more flexibility to get creative at the end if we have to. I think he’s going to play more centerfield going forward.” With Donald excelling as an outfielder, Aaron Cunningham, Ryan Spilborghs and Felix Pie could all become expendable.

Indians recalled INF Jason Donald from Triple-A Columbus.
Donald was the Indians’ primary utility infielder last season, but lasted just 16 games before being demoted. He’s taking the place of Lonnie Chisenhall (forearm).
  • MLB 2nd Baseman #28
Jason Kipnis (neck) is out of the Indians’ lineup for the second straight day Friday.
Kipnis won’t start, but Indians manager Manny Acta thinks he could be available off the bench. Consider him day-to-day for now. Jason Donald will make another start at second base and bat ninth Friday.

Jason Donald, who was recalled by the Indians earlier in the day, blasted a solo home run in Thursday’s 5-3 victory over the Red Sox.
Donald finished the night 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, two RBI and also stole a base. He got the Indians offense started with a bang, smashing a solo homer off Felix Doubront leading off the first inning. He’s hitting a paltry .192 through his first 52 at-bats on the season and shouldn’t be considered in all but the deepest of AL-only leagues.

Indians recalled SS Jason Donald from Triple-A Columbus.
Donald will provide the Indians with infield depth while Travis Hafner (lower back) is on the disabled list. He figures to see the majority of his playing time against left-handed pitching.
