Garcia

García, 28, hasn’t appeared in the major leagues since the 2015 campaign. He made 10 appearances (eight starts) at Double-A Montgomery in the Rays organization back in 2019.

The 26-year-old hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2015 season. He had been toiling for the Sioux City Explorers in the independent American Association, posting a 2.73 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 51/20 K/BB ratio across 56 innings. He’ll add rotation depth for the Rays.

Garcia was with the club for just two days as an extra bullpen arm. He’ll head back to Double-A where he’ll function as organizational depth. He should get another shot with the O’s at some point in the second half.

The 23-year-old right-hander appeared in 21 games out of the O’s bullpen in 2015, compiling a 4.25 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 22/17 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 innings. He’ll function in middle relief.

Garcia struggled to a 7.94 ERA in three games this spring before being shipped down to Norfolk. He did not see the majors this past season. In 21 games with the big league club back in 2015, he pitched to a 4.25 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 22/17 K/BB ratio over 29 2/3 frames. The 24-year-old right-hander spent the 2016 season at Double-A Bowie. He holds a career 4.69 ERA in the minors and is unlikely to earn a call back to the bigs unless injuries hit the O’s bullpen.

The Orioles needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for Damien Magnifico, who was acquired from Milwaukee on Thursday. The 24-year-old made 21 relief appearances for the O’s in 2015 but has spent the last year and change with Double-A Bowie.

Garcia cleared waivers after being designated for assignment on Friday. The 24-year-old hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2015 and will continue to serve as bullpen depth in the minors.

Garcia has missed the last six weeks of action with right shoulder tendinitis. The Orioles figure to send the Rule 5 pick out on a lengthy rehab assignment.

It’s not clear what ailment Garcia is dealing with, but his velocity has been down noticeably since spring training. The O’s will proceed cautiously with the Rule 5 pick. Mike Wright is expected to replace him on the roster.
