The Orioles needed a spot on the 40-man roster to call up Sam Huff, so Sandridge was let go. The 27-year-old had thrown 1 2/3 scoreless innings in Triple-A but had allowed two hits and walked three while striking out two.

Sandridge was designated for assignment by the Angels after he didn’t make the Opening Day roster. He’ll head to Baltimore as a potential bullpen option for the Orioles in 2026.

Sandridge loses his spot on Los Angeles’ roster amid a flurry of moves in advance of Opening Day. The 27-year-old was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake earlier this month.

Sandridge was acquired from the Yankees at the end of January. He had a 4.55 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 47/17 K/BB ratio in 31 2/3 innings at Triple-A for the Yankees last season. Even if he starts at Triple-A, there is a good chance that he sees MLB innings this season.

The Yankees had designated the 26-year-old southpaw for assignment earlier in the week, so they were willing to flip him for anything that they could get. Sandridge made his big league debut with the Yankees in 2025, giving up two runs on one hit and a pair of walks over 2/3 of an inning in his lone appearance. His strikeout upside makes him a candidate to crack the Halos’ Opening Day bullpen with a strong showing in Cactus League action.

Sandridge posted a 4.66 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 54/19 K/BB ratio in 36 2/3 innings at Triple-A last season. The strikeouts are obviously intriguing, but he remains a work in progress, and will also be 27 years old on Opening Day.

Sandridge heads back to the minors with veteran reliever Geoff Harlieb taking his spot in New York’s bullpen for Sunday’s game against the Mets. The 26-year-old lefty has made exactly one appearance this season in a couple stint with the Yankees.

It’s Sandidge’s third stint with the Yankees in just a couple of weeks; he was called up for the first time June 19, sent down after one game, recalled June 22 and then sent down again after one game. Hopefully, the third time is a charm, and he gets to make his major league debut now.

Sandridge was up for Sunday’s game against the Orioles. He returns to the minors to make room for Allan Winans to come up and start Monday’s series opener against the Reds.
