Rays selected RHP JJ Goss out of Cypress Ranch HS in Texas with the 36th pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.
Goss’s best pitch is his breaking-ball; a hybrid slider-curve that can miss bats and that he can locate for strikes. He sits 90-93 mph, but he can get up to 96, and there’s projection in his right arm. He throws those pitches and a decent change for strikes, but the command needs work. The Rays have done well with this type of arm, and Goss could be a mid-rotation starter someday.
