This was fait accompli after La Sorsa exercised his upward mobility clause, leading the Red Sox to acquire him from Pittsburgh. La Sorsa had a 3.46 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 22/6 K/BB ratio at Triple-A Indianapolis. He’ll try to work his way into the circle of trust in Boston’s bullpen.

La Sorsa is expected to join the Red Sox’ active roster on Friday, with right-hander Brayan Bello expected to be optioned to Triple-A Worcester to free up a spot.

The 27-year-old La Sorsa added considerable velocity last season, with his fastball climbing on average from 88 mph in 2024 to 92 mph during his time with the Reds. Still, it didn’t help him establish himself in the majors. He has a 5.21 ERA in 57 innings with the Rays, Nationals and Reds the last three years.

It didn’t take La Sorsa very long to find a new opportunity after electing free agency. The 27-year-old southpaw boasts a pedestrian 5.21 ERA across 57 innings over 46 appearances in the big leagues for four different organizations since 2023. He’ll head to Triple-A Syracuse as extra left-handed relief depth to close out the season.

La Sorsa will test the free agent waters instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville. The 27-year-old lefty allowed nine runs — eight earned — over 6 2/3 innings in five appearances for the Reds this season.

La Sorsa was removed from the 40-man roster on Tuesday and went unclaimed on waivers. He can become a free agent, but it’s possible he’ll stay put.

La Sorsa, who was pitching at Triple-A Louisville, will hit the waiver wire. He’s given up eight earned runs in 6 2/3 innings for the Reds this season, taking his career ERA to 5.21 in 57 innings.
