Pintaro

Pintaro pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in his two appearances with the Mets, striking out three. He figures to remain in the team’s bullpen shuttle mix, but the Mets opted for a fresh arm after he closed out a 7-2 loss to the Reds on Monday with 40 pitches.

Pintaro, who made one relief appearance for the Mets last year, earns another look after posting a solid 2.81 ERA and 32/12 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings for Triple-A Syracuse this season. He’ll operate in low-leverage spots for the Mets.

Pintaro made his MLB debut Wednesday, and it didn’t go particularly well as he allowed two runs over 2/3 of an inning. The 27-year-old will head to Triple-A for the first time — he was promoted from Double-A Binghamton — and Austin Warren is up to take his spot.

Pintaro is a fascinating story as an undrafted free agent who signed out of the Independent League and has pitched well in Binghamton with a 57/15 K/BB ratio and 3.40 ERA in his starts in Double-A. He’ll be a multi-inning option to begin his career, but could see some starting chances depending on how he pitches/how much the Mets need that type of option.
