Kevin Thompson is ineligible to be recalled for another eight days unless a player goes on the DL, so Reese is back to serve as a reserve outfielder. He’s actually starting in left over Melky Cabrera tonight, but he shouldn’t have any fantasy value.

Reese went 2-for-5 in 12 days with the Yankees.

Reese is 5-for-12 in 10 games with the Yankees this season. The club might go to Kevin Thompson next time an extra outfielder is needed.

Reese started Saturday in his major league debut, but he still received just two plate appearances during his brief stint in the majors, walking and striking out.

Desperation. Reese, 27, is starting in left field and batting ninth tonight, as the Yankees have shifted Tony Womack to center. Reese was batting a mediocre .272/.341/.443 for Columbus, so little should be expected. There probably won’t be any reason to use him once Hideki Matsui is able to return to left field.

Reese, who has served two stints in the majors with the Yankees this season, is out indefinitely.

The Padres probably won the trade that sent Reese to the Yankees for Bernie Castro in Dec. 2001, but it doesn’t look like either player is going to have a career in the majors. The 26-year-old Reese was batting .298/.348/.489 in Double-A.

Kevin Thompson has 100 points of OPS on Reese at Columbus and is also the better defensive outfielder. Reese, 28, is hitting just .250/.333/.375 in Triple-A. He’s not someone who figures to be a factor in fantasy leagues.

The 28-year-old Reese was hitting .257/.336/.376 in 109 at-bats for Columbus. Manager Joe Torre has already indicated that he’ll fall in behind both Melky Cabrera and Bubba Crosby on the depth chart, so he shouldn’t get much of a chance to contribute.
