Head signed a minor league contract with the Phillies back in January and wound up being released after making just 11 relief appearances this season for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 33-year-old righty made 28 appearances last year in the majors between the Orioles and Marlins.

Head and Bowden figure to get a chance sometime this season for the Phillies when the need arises for some additional bullpen reinforcements.

Head provides the Phillies with some quality organizational relief depth after registering an ugly 6.28 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 26/15 K/BB ratio across 28 2/3 innings (28 appearances) last season between the Marlins and Orioles. The 32-year-old righty has made 55 relief appearances in the majors over the last two seasons and is a solid depth addition for Philadelphia.

Head has been sidelined since late June due to a left shoulder impingement and is in the midst of a minor league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old righty reliever should be an option for the Orioles’ bullpen sometime later this month.

Head went on the injured list with a shoulder impingement less than a week ago, so it’s a good sign that he’s nearly ready to throw already. He’ll probably need a rehab appearance or two.
