Twins RHP Luis García elected free agency.

García hits the open market in search of a new opportunity rather than accept an outright assignment to Triple-A St. Paul. The 39-year-old journeyman picked up a pair of saves while allowing 10 runs over 8 2/3 innings across nine appearances for the Twins.

Luis García recorded his second save despite giving up a run in the ninth Sunday against the Brewers.

García was the only one of five Twins relievers to give up a run today, but he had a two-run cushion, fortunately. He’s allowed 10 runs in 8 2/3 innings in all since joining the Twins late last month. That’s raised his ERA from 7.11 before he was released by the Mets to 9.00 now.

Luis García picked up a save for the Twins with a scoreless 11th against the Guardians on Saturday.

Eric Orze got five outs without retiring a batter between the ninth and 10th tonight, so he might have helped himself a little more than García. Still, Minnesota’s closing situation doesn’t really seem worth speculating on at this point.

Twins signed RHP Luis García to a minor league contract.

García latches on with Minnesota as organizational relief depth after being released by the Mets last week. The 39-year-old journeyman posted a disastrous 7.11 ERA over 6 2/3 innings for New York this season. He’s made 609 career appearances in the big leagues since 2013.

    Mets released RHP Luis García.

García’s time in New York is over after struggling to a calamitous 7.11 ERA across 6 1/3 innings. The 39-year-old veteran went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. It’s possible he’ll latch on somewhere else, but will probably have to settle for a minor league deal.

Mets designated RHP Luis García for assignment.

The 39-year-old hurler struggled through six appearances with the Mets, posting a 7.11 ERA, 2.05 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings. The timing is a bit interesting though after he bounced back to throw a scoreless frame during Saturday’s game. Joey Gerber was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move to take his place in the Mets’ bullpen.

Mets signed RHP Luis García to a one-year contract.

The deal is worth $1.75 million and includes $1.25 million in bonuses, says USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale. García, who is coming off his third stint with the Angels, will open his 14th big-league season with his eighth different club. He’s still throwing in the high-90s as he approaches his 39th birthday, and he had a 3.42 ERA, a 48/26 K/BB and a 50% groundball rate in 55 1/3 innings last year.

The Mets are signing reliever Luis García, according to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.

This presumably will be a one-year, major league contract. García, who turns 39 this month, had a 3.42 ERA in 55 1/3 innings for the Dodgers, Nationals and Angels last season. He actually came in at 1.61 over 28 innings for those last two teams after the Dodgers cut him in July.
