Padres purchased the contract of RHP Marty McLeary from Triple-A Portland.
It’s nice to see the 29-year-old McLeary getting a chance to make his major league debut after posting a 3.18 ERA in seven starts and 33 relief appearances for Portland, but the Padres aren’t helping themselves by continuing to bypass Dennis Tankersley. McLeary will work in middle relief.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher
Padres signed RHP Marty McLeary and RHP Mike Brunet to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training.
Neither of these pitchers will have much chance of making the Padres. McLeary made his major league debut last season and had a 14.73 ERA in 3 2/3 innings for San Diego. Brunet had a 6.51 ERA in 65 IP for Triple-A Salt Lake.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher
Pirates sent RHP Marty McLeary outright to Triple-A Indianapolis.
McLeary gave up seven earned runs in 7 2/3 innings for the Pirates in May before being sent down. This bumps him from the 40-man roster.

Pirates optioned RHP Marty McLeary to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Considering that McLeary had given up six runs and three homers in 7 1/3 innings as a mopup man, it’s remarkable that he even had the opportunity to give up a go-ahead grand slam in Saturday’s loss to the Diamondbacks. Blame Jim Tracy for putting him in the situation, not McLeary for simply doing what he does best.

Pirates signed RHP Marty McLeary to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
McLeary, 31, spent his only time in the majors with the Padres in 2004, giving up six runs 3 2/3 innings. He’ll probably be a part of Triple-A Indianapolis’ bullpen.

Pirates purchased the contract of RHP Marty McLeary from Triple-A Indianapolis.
McLeary, 31, spent his only time in the majors with the Padres in 2004, giving up six runs 3 2/3 innings. He had a 2.68 ERA while splitting time between the rotation and middle relief for Indianapolis. The Pirates will use him as a middle reliever.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher
Marty McLeary pitched seven innings and combined with Matt Capps and Salomon Torres on a shutout of the Reds on Saturday.
McLeary, a 31-year-old journeyman, had a 2.04 ERA in two starts and three relief appearances for the Pirates. It’s not something that should keep him on the 40-man roster in the offseason, but the Pirates will probably try to hold on to him on a minor league deal.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher
Marty McLeary is expected to be promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
McLeary will take John Wasdin’s spot in the bullpen. McLeary was 2-1 with a 2.57 ERA in four starts with Indianapolis this season. He should be used in middle relief and have zero fantasy value.
