Red Sox activated OF Masataka Yoshida off the 60-day injured list.
Yoshida will finally make his season debut after missing the first three-plus months of the season due to offseason shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old is expected to be the designated hitter for most of his appearances, but also could see time at first base and in the corner outfield. He’s not an elite fantasy option, but there’s enough here for him to be a helper in a few categories for those in need.Ceddanne Rafaela will get Wednesday off with Yoshida back.

Red Sox optioned INF Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester.
Eaton has been shipped back to the minors with Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) set to be activated from the injured list for Wednesday’s game against the Rockies at Fenway Park. The 28-year-old infielder hit .250 (6-for-24) with three steals in 14 games with the Red Sox after being called up on June 16.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Roman Anthony will likely play left field on Wednesday.
Cora added that Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) will be at DH in his return from the injured list. It’s unclear how playing time will shake out for Jarren Duran, who has been at the epicenter of trade discussions recently, with Anthony transitioning to left field. It certainly feels like Boston is preparing to move on from Duran at the trade deadline based on their recent decisions and the sudden emergence of Ceddanne Rafaela as one of the better center fielders in the American League.

Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) is likely to be activated from the injured list for Wednesday’s game against the Rockies.
Yoshida is wrapping up a minor league rehab assignment and figures to be ready to make his season debut on Wednesday at Fenway Park. The 31-year-old’s defensive limitations complicate Boston’s crowded playing time picture at multiple spots, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they decided to move on from one of their more prominent outfielders in the coming weeks.

The Athletic’s Jayson Stark reports that many teams believe Jarren Duran is “the most likely of those players in their outfield to change teams.”
Executives who spoke to Stark suggest that the Red Sox don’t need to sell at the deadline as much as they need “to reconfigure the roster.” That means getting rid of some of the glut of players they have in the outfield. With Ceddanne Rafaela signed to a long-term deal and currently ranking inside the top 10 in WAR in the AL, he’s a lock to remain in Boston, as is top prospect Roman Anthony. Masataka Yoshida is set to come off the IL this week, but doesn’t have much trade value since he’s primarily a designated hitter, which means Duran and Wilyer Abreu remain the two names who could be traded. Abreu is younger and under team control for longer, plus he is coming off a Gold Glove season in right field, which makes Duran the most likely player to be dealt. If Duran is moved, his fantasy value could take a hit if he’s in a less hitter-friendly park or not leading off for his new team.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) will return before the All-Star break.
Yoshida is currently playing at Triple-A Worcester on a rehab assignment, but should return to Boston for his season debut at some point next week before the All-Star break. He figures to occupy the DH spot against right-handed pitching and could even factor into their first-base mix.

Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) has been doing pre-game work at first base during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester.
MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported that the “Red Sox are planning to get Yoshida some ‘light work’ pregame at first base during his rehab assignment.” The team is not switching his position and still views Yoshida as an outfielder or designated hitter. Still, while he’s with Worcester, they are seeing how he responds to the new position to see if it gives him added versatility. Considering Yoshida is just 5'8" and has not played first base before, we would imagine it’s a long shot that he’d get into a game at the position.

Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday.
No word yet on where that assignment will begin, but Yoshida is expected to need plenty of at-bats before he’s an option to join the Red Sox’ lineup. If all goes according to plan, it sounds like they’re hopeful he’ll be ready to return coming out of the All-Star break.

Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) told reporters on Friday that he hopes to return by the All-Star break.
The 31-year-old has missed the entirety of the season thus far due to a right shoulder labral injury. He’s closing in on a minor league rehab assignment though, where he’s going to need plenty of at-bats to get up to speed. Yoshida is expected to serve as the Red Sox’ regular designated hitter upon his eventual return from the IL.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora told reporters on Friday that Masataka Yoshida (shoulder) could begin a minor league rehab assignment in the near future.
Cora didn’t put any specific timetable on that statement, but it sounds like Yoshida is finally getting closer to live game action. The 31-year-old is expected to see most of his time at designated hitter upon his eventual return to the Red Sox’ lineup.
