Athletics reassigned SS Leo De Vries, LHPs Gage Jump and Matt Krook, C Chad Wallach, 3B Tommy White, 2B Michael Stefanic, OFs Cade Marlowe and Henry Bolte, RHPs Nick Hernandez, Brooks Kriske and Wander Suero to minor league camp.
De Vries put together an extremely impressive showing in Cactus League play, hitting .409 (18-for-44) with three homers and 11 RBI in 17 contests. The switch-hitting 19-year-old prodigy was the centerpiece of the Mason Miller blockbuster at the trade deadline last July and will open the minor league season at Double-A Midland. It wouldn’t be shocking at all if he reached the big leagues as a teenager in the second half. He’s one of the top 10 prospects in the entire fantasy landscape entering 2026.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #60
Athletics signed LHP Matt Krook to a minor league contract.
Krook also signed a minor league deal with the A’s about this time last year. He joined the major league team briefly in May and allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings before being claimed on waivers by the Guardians. He spent the rest of the year in Triple-A, posting a 3.18 ERA and a 40/24 K/BB in 34 innings. Poor control has kept Krook from establishing himself in the majors, but he can both miss bats and generate grounders. He’ll probably get another look at some point.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #39
Guardians sent RHP Ben Lively, LHP Kolby Allard, C Dom Nuñez, INF Will Wilson and LHP Matt Krook outright to Triple-A Columbus.
All six players have elected free agency instead of sticking around with the Guardians. No real surprises here as Cleveland clears some space on its 40-man roster heading into the offseason. Lively is the most prominent name by a considerable margin, but he’s going to miss a significant portion of next season recovering from Tommy John surgery.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #62
Guardians claimed LHP Matt Krook off waivers from the Athletics.
The Guardians had a spot open on their 40-man roster after transferring Ben Lively to the 60-day injured list, so they snagged Krook off of waivers from the A’s. The 30-year-old southpaw made three appearances with the Athletics this season, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and a 3/1 K/BB ratio across 3 1/3 innings. He’ll add extra depth at the Triple-A level for the Guardians.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics designated LHP Matt Krook for assignment.
Krook loses his spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster with the club making a flurry of moves ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Astros. The 30-year-old lefty has made only three relief appearances this season in the majors. He figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the club as organizational depth.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics optioned LHP Matt Krook to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old southpaw appeared in three games during his time with the A’s, registering a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and a 3/1 K/BB ratio over 3 1/3 innings of work. He’ll continue to refine his craft at the Triple-A level until he’s called upon again.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics selected the contract of LHP Matt Krook from Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old southpaw has done a decent job at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, posting a 3.21 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and a 21/8 K/BB ratio across 14 innings. He’ll add a fresh arm to the bullpen for at least a few days while the team decides how to handle Oslvado Bido’s spot in the rotation.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #66
Athletics signed LHP Matt Krook to a minor league contract.
Despite walking way too many batters, Krook has been effective as both a starter and a reliever in the minors. In the majors, though, he’s given up 13 earned runs in five innings for the Yankees and Orioles. The A’s will likely keep the 30-year-old in the bullpen and see if they can figure something out with him. He’s struck out 109 in 77 2/3 innings in Triple-A the last two years.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #66
Orioles sent LHP Matt Krook outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 29-year-old southpaw had been designated for assignment on Thursday to clear a spot on the team’s 40-man roster. He passed through waivers unclaimed though and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth at Triple-A Norfolk for the time being.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #66
Orioles designated LHP Matt Krook for assignment.
Krook was one of several players to lose their spot on Baltimore’s 40-man roster earlier this week at the trade deadline. The 29-year-old lefty made one relief appearance for the Orioles after being called up last Friday from Triple-A Norfolk.
