Blazek elected to accept his outright assignment after clearing waivers and will stick around as relief depth.

Washington had to clear some roster space after picking up three relievers from the trade market on Wednesday, and Blazek is one of the casualties.

Blazek hasn’t appeared in a major league game since 2017 and owns a 5.54 ERA in 26 innings of work this season at the Triple-A level. The 30-year-old right-hander will presumably operate as a low-leverage relief arm.

The 30-year-old hurler, who last pitched in the big leagues with the Brewers in 2017, owns a 5.54 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 28/10 K/BB ratio across 26 innings this season at Triple-A. He isn’t a recommended fantasy option.

Blazek -- who had been pitching in independent ball for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association -- has been assigned to Triple-A Fresno. The 30-year-old holds a 4.39 ERA over parts of four major league seasons and could get a shot if he pitches well given the dire state of the Nats’ bullpen.

Blazek, 23, had a 4.43 ERA and 84/36 K/BB ratio over 83 1/3 innings between Double- and Triple-A this year. He’s likely nothing more than a bullpen arm, but the Cardinals didn’t want to leave him exposed for the Rule 5 Draft.

Blazek was up in the majors for only four days and did not make an appearance. The 24-year-old has a cool 0.92 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings this season in the minor leagues. He’ll get a look eventually.

The bullpen had to eat up a lot of innings following John Gast’s injury Saturday, so the Cards need a fresh arm. Blazek has put up a 0.92 ERA while striking out 25 over 19 2/3 innings at Springfield this season. He’ll be making his major league debut when he gets in a game.

Blazek, 24, will provide the Cardinals with bullpen depth. He has a 2.81 ERA over eight appearances at the Triple-A level.

Blazek, 24, wasn’t expected to make the club this spring due to the team’s bullpen depth anyway, so he’ll return to Triple-A Memphis, where he made two appearances last season. Overall, Blazek had a 4.43 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A in 2012.
