According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Mets asked permission to talk with Cardinals GM Mike Girsch about their president of baseball operations job but were rebuffed.
Girsch “elected to stay with the Cardinals” and did not interview for the opening, per Goold. It’s yet another failed pursuit for the Mets in their quest to fill the executive position just under owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson. Brewers general manager Matt Arnold pulled his name out of the running on Wednesday, also before the interview stage.
