Petersen begins a second stint with the Marlins after posting a 4.76 ERA in 5 2/3 innings for the club last season. He had a 6.00 ERA in 12 innings for Jacksonville.

Petersen was acquired from the Braves for cash considerations back in mid-July. Since the trade, the 31-year-old hurler has posted a 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 19/5 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work. He’ll add depth in the middle innings for the Marlins.

Peterson will report to Triple-A Jacksonville as organizational relief depth for Miami after making four appearances for Atlanta. The 31-year-old righty holds a pedestrian 5.47 ERA across 26 1/3 innings (20 appearances) in the majors since 2024.

Peterson has been removed from Atlanta’s 40-man roster just ahead of the All-Star break to make room for veteran reliever Wander Suero. The 31-year-old righty made four relief appearances earlier this season in the big leagues.

The Braves continue to shuttle Petersen back and forth from Triple-A anytime that they need a fresh arm for their bullpen. The 31-year-old hurler threw 61 pitches over 2 2/3 innings against the Phillies on Friday night, giving up one run on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out two. Unfortunately, that means he won’t be available for a couple of days so the Braves are sending him back out to get another arm active for Saturday’s contest. Petersen should get another opportunity with the big league club in relatively short order.

The Braves sent LHP Austin Cox to Triple-A Gwinnett after yesterday’s game, so now Petersen will be recalled to take his place on the active roster. Petersen has allowed two runs on three hits in three innings with two strikeouts and no walks.

Petersen, who was added to the roster between games yesterday, gave up two runs in an inning during the doubleheader against the Phillies.

With AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) landing on the injured list, Petersen will provide the Braves’ bullpen with a fresh arm for at least a couple of days while they decide how to handle that rotation spot. Petersen, 31, has logged a pair of scoreless innings in his only appearance with the Braves this season. Expect him to be utilized in a middle relief role.

Petersen was only up for a day this time and didn’t pitch. He threw two scoreless innings in one appearance for the Braves earlier this season.

Peterson returns to the majors with Braves ace Spencer Strider (hamstring) landing on the injured list ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Cardinals.
